"I came in for the first time with my friend and the fresh baked cookies in the window caught our eye!! But we ordered so much more than that. I got the shrimp po boy, Mac and cheese with bacon and an assortment of cookies. When I say everything was delicious… IT WAS DELICIOUS! Cookies were chewy and soft. The pi boy was seasoned perfectly and the bun was super soft. The Mac and cheese tasted like it came out of my grandmas kitchen. Very tasty spot with a cozy jazz vibe to it."
"Shared some sweet potato/pecan pie, it was perfection. Came for the dessert, on advice of a college student who doesn't like to cook all the time. I'll be back for more as lots of people getting full meals. Budget friendly and delicious southern style food. Wanted to try the special Oxtails but probably next time. Its hidden in the basement of the old post office, support a locals restaurant."
"Lovely place awesome food I got the shrimp and grits, and a piece of pecan pie. He offered to warm it up for me and put whipped cream on it!"
"Came in to order shrimp and grits and the lady helping me threw in cornbread and a pumpkin chocolate cookie to try. The shrimp and grits were great. I liked the cornbread, very moist and full of honey flavor and I liked the texture from the corn meal/semolina (I’m not too sure which). The pumpkin cookie was… AMAZING. Crispy edges, cakey interior, really good pumpkin spice flavor with quality chocolate. I want to come back and try their specials and some sweet potato pie :)"
"Oh boy, I'm in trouble! I work in this building and am going to blow my diet on all the tasty treats coming from the Basement. Papa What You Cooking has Southern comfort food, though the portion sizes are more reasonable than what you'd get in the south (which is awesome as I have no self-control). I'm just starting to try the things they offer and I've already had the red beans & rice, which is perfect. I'm now eating a breakfast bowl with grits, sausage (or bacon) and scrambled eggs. The bowl comes in an 8, maybe 10oz cup and it's so easy to eat as the grits base is a little soupy. I'm in love. So tasty. And ridiculously good prices for downtown food options. I love that they have smaller versions of their pies, cakes and cobblers. You can grab something savory or sweet, pick up a well-made coffee just across the hall and take in the shopping in the Basement as well as the first floor of the building. Go try them out if you love southern food. I guarantee you it will be worth your time!"
