"I’ve lived at Wilshire Wood for over 5 yrs now and I have to say, it has truly become my home now. The building, although built in the 70’s, maintains a classy decor and the grounds and building are immaculate due to the tireless work of the manager, Jesus. I live on 3rd floor, and due to the age of the building, I’ve had numerous interior and structural issues. Highland Management claims “all my issues and requests have been completed.” I respectfully disagree! I’ve had repeated leaking roof issues, flooring issues, bathroom issues, laundry room issues, etc. But most of my issues have happened in just over a year now. One such issue continues to be a point of contention as management refuses to fix it. When my carpet was layed, management says it’s 8 yrs old, the concrete below was not smoothed. They left huge drops of concrete, some very high and sharp, or huge divets and or dips in it. Then, they layed the carpet over it, probably assuming the padding would “cover” it and the tenant wouldn’t feel it. They didn’t figure that padding compresses and flattens over time, which is what happened with me. So, now, all I feel when I walk anywhere in my apartment are huge holes (the size of a large coffee cup) and sharp pointy edges on my feet. Highland Management didn’t even bother to come take a look at it or feel it to validate my complaint!! Not to mention, the original carpet layers “shorted” the carpet so they stretched it too much and cut it too short, so now, the seams and so on are stretching beyond their breaking point. I’ve had it stretched twice if not more to fix fraying and shortage of carpet between my bathroom door and hallway. To repair it, they had someone come take a strip of carpet, of the same color, from my hallway closet flooring. Then, they replaced the closet floor with another colored carpet. The carpet layer did a nice job, however, the two carpets don’t match because MY carpet is worn and lightened over time, and HIS strip of new carpet is like the original, so you can see a distinct line of discoloration in the doorway. It looks ridiculous! But, even with all that, they still won’t address my main issue, the concrete chunks below the carpet and replacing my carpet with hard flooring in the areas mentioned. (I asked for that fake laminate hardwood stuff, which isn’t even that expensive) which they denied due to the fact that my carpet was only 8 yrs old. My complaints with Highland Management have been many and so far, the biggest problem, which I just mentioned, has fallen on deaf ears. Because of this, I cannot give Highland Management 5 stars. I’d give them 3, but the building manager, Jesus, gets all 5 stars in my book!!"
"I lived here for just about 3 years, the apartment was clean, and the building manager was nice. However, the building is owned by Highland Management Group who are your typical soulless, corporate rental agency. If your lease is ending, your rent is increasing. Oh, and they refuse to negotiate anything. Why? They'll blame inflation, the cost of maintenance, and taxes. What will you see in return? Nothing. The garage spot goes up in price, and nothing improves. Washing and drying is more, but the machines break more often. My rent was $400 higher when I moved out then when I signed in 2020. I got robbed twice while living here. Someone jacked my catalytic converter in the parking lot and the (now fired) manager didn't care and didn't tell anyone in the building. I had two bikes (that were locked) stolen from the garage, and management told me that the camera footage was inaccessible to residents. Criminal activity happens on this property and all management cares about is keeping up appearances. The final straw was when I was moving out. We had moved into our new home a month before our lease ended so the apartment was vacant for a month. They call me and tell me they want to repaint it while it is empty. I thought it was fine, because it would mean I didn't need to pay rent that final month. No. They were insisting to paint, but still demanded that I pay full rent. Have your cake and eat it too, right? The place is ruined by a rental agency that will not negotiate, listen, or even have the pretense to respect renters. Don't live here, or anywhere Highland despoils. The only good aspect is Jesus, the building manager. A lovely lady who could star in another sequel to Horrible Bosses."
"The four stars go to the manager Jesus. She’s great, was always on top of things that needed to be done at the apartment. Easy to talk to about any issues I had as well, she’s fair & treats everyone equally. The building is definitely in better standing since she’s been manager. Thank you so much for your help."
"Been here a few years. It's a great location with easy access to 394 and lots of great local shopping. The building is decent, the rent is a bit high but not way out of line for the area. Jesus the newest manager is exceptional. She cleans a lot more often and more thorough than the former cleaning crew. The elevator panel is actually shiny. Jesus also keeps on top of vendors so the lot is properly plowed, landscaping is of good quality and so on. The maintenance Man(sadly I can't recall his name) is super nice and did a very good job when my oven was only lighting on one side."
"Been living here for half a decade and it has been really great overall!! Never really had any issues with noise or neighbors. Whenever there was an issue or something in need of a fix, Hope was always ready and willing to help make it right. She is very dedicated to making sure everything is as it should be - from appliance functionality to resident happiness and comfort. It’s so refreshing to see that from a property manager for once. It’s truly felt like home. I know I’ll have many more years here going forward thanks to Hope."
