"Tonight was “Sunday Funday”. There was an obstacle course in the pool. The YMCA aquatic staff was amazing! They kept the kids safe and played with them as they swam. The aquatic team of lifeguards at the Y is top notch! Thanks for a fun afternoon!!!"
"I am extremely disappointed in my membership and will be cancelling snd switching to the wellness in Fargo. The YMCA does TOO MUCH that they don’t even take care of the paying members anymore. Just yesterday I had an encounter with their manager, Dan (the bald guy) because we drove 30 min to use the gym. We come at the same time every week. Today, we were told we couldn’t use the gym because they had youth basketball on the other side. They said this was indicated in the door. Well, gym times were wrong in the door and wrong on the app. And his defense was “when I see people that look like they play basketball I tell them it’s closed until this time” Okay 1- that’s profiling and you can’t run a business like that. 2- he KNEW we drove in to use the gym and he couldn’t honor THEIR MISTAKE by incorrectly advertising their times on the app AND the door. The worst part was HE WAS THE ONE THAT LOWERED THE HOOP FOR US LAST WEEK, then told us that they’ve never let us in there. I would NEVER recommend Dan as a manager, from profiling participants to a complete lack of taking responsibility and empathy to PAYING MEMBERS. I wouldn’t recommend this YMCA, and honestly I wouldn’t recommend any Y. They use the membership fees to pay everything else they try and do, and just end up kicking out their members to do it. Dan, I hope this message makes its way to you. I want you to know that, 4 years ago people thought you were rude and a poor manager (looking at reviews) and you still are today. Until you learn customer service, empathy, and integrity, you will never move up. So, I hope you are happy with your job. And while you’re there, the YMCA will continue to receive poor reviews due to its poor management and staff. If I were you, and saw one kid that drove 30 minutes to play basketball, and it was MY STAFF that had the schedule wrong on the app, I would’ve lowered the hoop. You can’t tell me with two people at the front desk that one person can’t watch the other gym for an hour. All you did was talk about how inconvenient it was for you to have to go down there and watch the gym, well I’m sorry that YOUR JOB is inconveniencing you when we are paying for services we are being PROMISED and then not getting delivered. The amount of customer service and business experience I have is exceptional, and I wouldn’t be half as far as I am today if I had a quarter of your pride, ego, and lack of empathy."
"I've been a member at this gym for around 3 months now and usually never have a problem, but my most recent visit to the Y the worker at the front desk had a very heavy attitude to me and my friend, and also treated us very disrespectful. We were just trying to play some basketball before the gym closed and he ended up giving us a very poor experience, I would really like to see the Y implement a more friendly environment to college students because we felt like he was trying to act as an authoritative person and was talking down to us the entire time. I plan to cancel my membership and start working out at metro flex, a gym where everyone is treated with respect. (the staff member was the bald guy, we do not know his name)"
"I joined shortly after moving downtown. I've been to this YMCA previously growing up and naively thought the facilities would have been improved. Sadly, I was mistaken. The workout facility in the basement is small, cramped, and makes you feel claustrophobic. The weight equipment was extremely outdated. The facility itself is complicated to navigate. Took me awhile just to get back upstairs to leave. After realizing I was better off taking the 15-20 min to drive to the Family Wellness, I tried cancelling my membership online, only to find out you can only cancel your membership in-person (during the middle of COVID). I understand the financial limitations of overhauling this facility, but downtown Fargo deserves a much higher quality YMCA than what is currently being provided at the Fercho branch."
