"If you grew up in Arizona, this is has always been known as the death star. But honestly I have not felt this way being here. My credit was shot and couldn't get approved for any place to live. This place gave me a place to live and I was able to improve my credit in 12 months to get approved for a bigger for my son and I. I am beyond grateful for desert Stars. I only give it a four-star review because it could have been five if they would just improve the laundry room. A lot of people here are on social security so you have some crazy neighbors. But I have learned to keep to myself and not get to know my neighbors or talk to anybody but the office. Like I said, I worked hard for these past 12 months to improve my credit. Thank you. Desert stars for giving me a place to live."
"I moved for a year because it was the best solution I had to a bad situation. Paid an outrageous security deposit. Was never late on payments. Did not cause any problems, left the place better then it was before I got there (not really that hard) the place was trashed before I even moved in paint on the floors roaches everywhere. Cabinets looked like a dog eat them. Oven did not work, the next door neighbor was not very respectful fighting every night loud music all night, kids running around screaming in my window. After all did my best to put a smile on my face and move on with the day. After all this I got a new place about a month ago did everything I needed to when I moved out. After all of that I should have got my security deposit back. I gave them the key they promised me the money. State law requires them to give it to me in 14 days and 27 day later no refund and all they can tell me is I should have had it already and they have no answer on why it's not there yet. They will take your money and for no reason not give it back."
"If I could give them ZERO stars, I would. I’ve only lived here for 3 and a half months and it’s NOT a good place to live. The buildings are falling apart, bugs, roaches infest the apartments. The pool, which is an amenity that, I, and my fellow tenants pay for is ALWAYS locked, denying us access, even during the 115+ degree weather we just had this past summer. Currently the laundry room, again another amenity we pay for, is out of order, has been going on about 1 month or more now. Anytime you ask for an update, the property managers in the office have no information, Only one of them seems to actually know what they are doing. There are no dog pickup stations anywhere in the complex, so dog feces is everywhere you look. They try to charge you late fees and don’t give you a notice about what they’re trying to charge you for or why. They’ve turn my water off “for maintenance” without notice. They’ve tried to tell me I can’t hang things out in front of my door, but half the complex has an assortment of items outside their doors, both top and bottom apartments. Safe to say I will not be renewing my lease, if I could break it and move, I would."
"Worst mistake of my entire life was renting here. Please read. First, St. Vincent wrote them a check for some of my rent I couldn't pay that month. The office informed the church they couldn't accept their check for my rent and evicted me. The church later called to see how I was doing and was shocked because someone from Desert Star's office ended up coming by and picked up the check and it was cashed shortly after. So they were under the impression everything was good. Hope the office enjoyed stealing from a church. Second, oh my god. The bugs. They spray one building and the roaches run to another building. You spray that one, they run back to the first one. But hey, at least you're not homeless. Third, yes they went through an eviction process with me. That's fine. I cooperated. The day I needed to be out, I was having trouble booking a moving van. Everything was packed in boxes and stacked ready to go in the living room. The office staff said that was fine and gave me additional time to come back. Written and signed. I told them the date I had the moving van booked and everything was great. Until I came back the day before I was scheduled to move the boxes out and do my last walk-through with office staff. I just happened to be in the area and stopped by the apartment and the door was unlocked, boxes dumped on the floor, electronics gone. I checked the dumpsters and there was a bunch of my daughter's and my stuff. My kids ashes gone. Dogs ashes gone. Our whole lives were gone. Hope this whole place goes out of business."
"I've rented here in the past years ago and now I'm renting here once again . The offices folks seem nice and had patents with me getting them the full move in price The apartment honestly isn't worth what they're charging folks The apartments including appliances is extremely outdated like the stove . The walls / doors / cabinets / have been patched and painted over too many times The paint thickness over outlet plates shows it's been unprofessionally paint over many times All utilities should be included and I thought they were because they use to be but they're not . I choose to pay the $995 a month plus electric for a small studio apartment which isn't really that bad just outdated and poor maintenance repairs that are very unprofessional in my opinion. I use to own a Homes renovation / remodeling LLC back home in Arkansas until Covid - So; I know what's right and what's not I notice things most don't. The maintenance man did complete two work orders for this apartment within the first 24 hours and gave me my mailbox key I can't say they're not on top of repairs just not very good in my opinion. There are roaches but I haven't seen but a couple so far but I'm cleaner than most Simply take out trash daily , don't leave food out and wipe down all the counters / sinks / walls, etc. with bleach daily - I promise the roaches will go away All in all it's a place to live . I'm happy here except the price is so high and they don't include all utilities . I like the closeness of Walmart Sams club circle K etc"
