"They sent my daughter away with acute pancreatitis which was caused from trauma of dropping a 135 pound weight on her stomach. She was severely vomiting, in severe pain, couldn’t stand up and the Emergency room discharged her, without any pain or nausea meds I might add. Told her her lipase was high, she had pancreatitis and see you later bye. She suffered in pain for several weeks, lost almost 20 lbs, couldn’t keep food down, when we finally went to better ER at Gilbert Mercy Hospital. She was admitted right away and treated with care and attention that she did not get at Tempe St Luke’s. The medical professionals at Mercy were shocked the ER at St Luke’s released her without any treatment. I would never go to this hospital."
"This place is old and run down and looks like it is stuck in the 70s, and the staff is just as bad as the building. They left me in a hallway for hours, they kept making mistakes on me and forgetting who was doing what. They didn’t have time to even talk to me like a human being, I felt like one of those mannequins they practice on in nursing school because you obviously don’t have to talk to them/have bedside manner. What they do have time for is to be unprofessional and talk behind patients back and complain about them, the reason I could here this was because I was in the hallway with my eyes closed from the harsh light all night since I didn’t have a private room area and they probably thought I couldn’t hear them or didn’t care. I can’t imagine how stressful their job is, but they have to remain professional and ethical, it’s part of their job for a reason. Just like most of us all have jobs where we have to do hard things eventhough we are thinking something negative keep it to yourself or at the very least when nobody is around. Also, nobody told me what was going on or the process, they discharged me and forgot to give me my discharge paperwork and almost forgot to give me my belongings. You won’t find a sliver of human touch or compassion here if that’s what you’re expecting. This place needs to be re-vamped severely as it is the only hospital that serves the Tempe community. We pay so much for ER visits and invest so much into ASU to be state of the art, yet look at this old run down hospital we get and worn out workers."
"Even though I grew up in Tempe and lived there from 1964-1979 I had never been to Tempe St Luke’s until the night of Sunday, February 25, 2024. My mom was brought to the ER by the Tempe paramedics (as an aside the Tempe paramedics are awesome!). After about an hour I was told that tests were being run and it would take a couple of hours to get results. Because my mom was fine (in the nurse’s opinion) I was encouraged to go home and I would get a call in two hours. The waiting room is a dump so I can’t deny that I was happy to go home. Three hours later I called the hospital and was told they are still waiting on test results and that I would get a call when they are ready to discharge. Another three hours later (it is now after 2:00 a.m.) my mom calls and tells me I can come pick her up. Why didn’t the hospital ever call me? I arrive at the hospital and find my mom sitting in a wheelchair by herself in the waiting room. There is NOBODY in the waiting room but my mom at nearly 2:30 in the morning. I look around but no hospital employee is present. I walk to check-in desk and nobody is at the desk! There is nobody around to tell us what was done in the hospital and next steps so I took my mom home. When we get home I read the paperwork and it says nothing about what was done to treat her wound. It says nothing about what tests were run or the results. Medication has been prescribed but I don’t know why. She was given some sort of sedative or pain medication but I don’t know what it is. So I call the hospital and the nurse station proceeds to tell me nothing because of HIPAA. I’m told to call the Records department in the morning. By this time it is 3:30 am and I’m exhausted. I call the hospital again in the morning and speak with records. I am given the process for obtaining the records and am told it can take up to a month. Frustrated, I decide to take matters into my own hands so I call the help line for the patient portal and get an account created for my mom. Finally, I am able to see information about the tests (but still nothing about the wound). What an incredibly bad experience. St Luke’s released a patient who couldn’t walk under her own power and who we ultimately brought to Banner Desert less than 24 hours later where she is currently receiving expert care."
"They treated me like a person. David the triage nurse was exceptional and The nurse who was taking care of me was amazing as well, the Dr was great and even the X-ray tech was amazing and sweet. I had severe anxiety going into this place because of the way I was treated prior to coming here. I had left a horrible facility that literally refused to treat me. Oftentimes when you do that you walk into worse treatment because the staff assumes that you're combative or the problem. This was not the case at Tempe St Luke's. I explained a little bit of what went on to the intake nurse David and he assured me I would be okay and put my mind at ease while he did my assessment. He actively listened to me and comforted me I'm extremely grateful to the staff before their help during this stressful and painful time for me. By the time I got there my pain had started to subsides slightly so I was feeling a lot better than I had been prior. I was still in pain and still had it been maintaining a headache for 2 days but despite this new development they gave me the best care. The nurse made sure that if I needed anything I felt comfortable asking and the doctor listen to my concerns and treated me accordingly allowing me to have peace of mind. Even though it was my situation there isn't much they could do I'm forever grateful for the treatment I received from the staff. I've been here twice now and every time has been like that. These are some of the best people in healthcare and they deserve all the praise. As cheesy as it sounds the fact that they were kind to me helped me to feel a little better."
"They cared, unlike Banner. St Luke's reminded me of the great healthcare I received when growing up in Chicago. They checked everything! EVERY employee treated me like a human being. EVERY employee who was a part of my treatment was kind. I want to repeat this. EVERY employee who treated me was kind. This has not been my experience in Arizona. I do think the ER was packed and that they need more space."
