"As we bought a 1910 true fixer upper, I used to frequent Re Store Abq. store which used to truly be run and priced in the honorable traditions of President Jimmy Carter, a founder of Habitat for Humanity. In recent times though, I have found less than caring sales personnel and prices which are mostly unmarked, through the roof. This week when asked for the price, an employee looked at an unmarked donated chair I liked, and says, ‘Hmmm; $200.00. Until that price quote there were actually a number of furniture pieces that I was interested in. Employee not that interested in following me around to price other items of course, so that was it for today. There for years, has been a very kind, empathetic, and open minded checkout woman. Unfortunately, I have not made it to the ‘checkout’ on last three visits. In my mind, there is a balance to be found between making a profit for Habitat for Humanity and just being kinder to and more generous with customers who can only afford stores like this one. My joy and sense of fun and discovery for re-storing our old home, is less than zero here."
