"Wonderful views and a nice 3 miles ride up there."
"Amazing views. Easy drive up to the lookout with bathroom facilities and picnic tables. Well worth the trip and you can camp/RV at Copperfield Park at Oxbow dam and enjoy more breathtaking sceneries at Hells Canyon."
"A nice place for a view of Hells Canyon and the surrounding mountains in Idaho. I drove from Joseph and turned on the Wallowa mountain loop for about two hours on a very winding road with steep slopes. I turned on the forest road for about three miles to reach the overlook. The overlook area has picnic tables, vault toilets and signs that give you information on the canyon. It is am amazing to see the deepest river gorge on North America. A nice view of the Seven Devils Mountains in Idaho, but no view of the Snake River. You can drive to the Hells Canyon Dam in over three hours or drive back to Joseph. I drive back to Joseph due to the amount of time it takes to the dam. A place to stop for the afternoon if you are in Joseph area with great views of Hells Canyon on a scenic winding Mountain road."
"Great views but no view of the river from this vantage. NF-490 is paved although there's a few spots that have some bad pot holes. We had a quick lunch and during the 40 minutes or so we were there 2 guys pulled up on dual purpose bikes, on a trip from LA... I was a little jealous. 15 minutes later another guy showed up on a dual purpose coming from St. Louis. None of them stayed long so we had the area mostly to ourselves. This place is serene, very little garbage, graffiti or vandalism that I saw. This is most likely because it's in the middle of nowhere! Because of that, please make sure your vehicle is in good working order and don't expect much cell service until you've reached the overlook."
"Really awesome experience. Really a hidden gem of Oregon being so tucked up in the corner of the state, but absolutely worth the trip. While the drive up can feel a little tedious and be hard for passengers susceptible to carsickness; it's a view you cannot get anywhere else in the state. It's pretty unbeatable landscape visuals at the lookout. There are of course a good amount of bugs like (giant) crickets, bees of all verity and butterflies as well as some larger animals like deer and cows to see also. I highly recommend it for individuals and families alike as well as photographers and outdoor enthusiasts."
