About the Business

The Wreck of the Peter Iredale is located at Fort Stevens State Park in Oregon, United States. The park, spanning 4,300 acres, offers a variety of recreational activities including camping, beach-combing, wildlife viewing, and exploring historic military installations. Visitors can enjoy year-round military displays at the museum, tour Civil War era fortifications, and explore concrete artillery gun batteries from the turn-of-the-century. Underground tours of a World War II command center are available during the summer months. The park also features a historic shipwreck, the Peter Iredale, which ran aground in 1906. Visitors are encouraged to bring warm clothing, binoculars, bicycles, and mosquito repellent when exploring the park. Day-use parking permits are required for certain areas of the park, and visitors can purchase firewood from the Friends of Old Fort Stevens to support preservation efforts. The park's history dates back to the Civil War, with the original fort being named after Union Army Major General Isaac I. Stevens. Fort Stevens is the only military fort in the United States to have been fired upon by an enemy during wartime since the War of 1812.
Reviews
"Beautiful State Park. The Wreck experience is always changing because of storms and tides. Beautiful to go when the tide rolls in and out to reveal the entire wreck."
"This is so fun and pleasant and historical all at the same time. Best to go when tide is out for better viewing of the entirety of what’s left. When the sun is out is the best. Good place to take kids and let them dig."
"Wow! The sands shifted and the tide went out and revealed so much of the wreck, so neat to see this history. Get the family out to take an easy stroll to see this from the parking areas. There are vault toilets at the parking areas. Don't forget it is a state park, fees may apply and pack out what you pack in."
"unique experience. Never seen something like this before. The wreck is bigger than i imagined. Beach is beautiful too. Parking available"
"We only had an hour to spend here, so ended up walking around the beach and taking pictures of the shipwreck. It may seem underwhelming for some people, but these remains have been here for over 100 years and so I was so happy to explore the area. The black sand was lovely to walk on. Seemed like driving is permitted on the beach, there were a lot of four wheel drives passing through. There are restrooms at the entrance of the park. Parking is available close to be beach, but it can easily get filled on busy days."
