"The online site had that they opened at 1 pm. We got there at 1. The Nebraska guy in charge said no tours. There were only two of us. As we pulled out of the parking lot he and another guy were locking up the gate. Not friendly or helpful in the least."
"A must go place if you’re nearby this area. It was closed to public during Covid and now has reopened since July. We had a wonderful bison tour with Benjamin. He’s really nice and knowledgable. Tom, the manager, was also nice and patient with us. We spotted the bison herd and learned a lot about them from Ben. It is recommended to call them in advance to schedule the bison or wildflower tour. Great for family and kids and also individuals. They are an institute dedicating to the preservation of this part of nature and wilderness, and education on people - especially the next generation - to raise their awareness. I strongly recommend some donation after the tour to help this cause. Thanks Tom, Ben and everyone working there to help make our world a little better."
"Benjamin was a great tour guide. He knows a lot about the Bisons and shared a lot of information with us. Very interesting to see them up close. Making reservations really helps get you in. Nice to see them preserve a huge part of ours country heritage!"
"Our small group went to the bison refuge in early June. The 5 family members all had a great time. We were able to spend time seeing the wildflowers and landscape then on to the bison. Noah, our guide for the morning took us out so we were able to get many wonderful photos. Seeing the three new female baby bison was so sweet . Overall it was a delightful morning. Thank you!"
"With much of SW Kansas' sand sage prairie contained on inaccessible private land, this conservation land makes viewing native plants and wildlife easy. I am a summer volunteer that helps with educational events at The Range and I am always discovering something new, whether it is the elusive Texas long-nose snake or a new wildflower blooming. One of the more unique attractions is a small playa pond attracting water-loving dragonflies, frogs, and unique plants. If you love wildflowers, make sure to stop by sometime between March and June when the prairie is full of blooms! Bison tours are available if scheduled ahead of time by calling the office phone number. Wildlife and wildflower identification handbooks can be found inside the office."
