"TEN STARS! As a parent of an Acellus student, I feel many of the bad reviews are skewed. My daughter was in traditional public schools from kindergarten through most of 8th grade until at-home learning was forced by the pandemic. In traditional school, there were many terrible teachers that taught very bias courses and took their personal lives out on the children. Many of the teachers set a horrible example for my daughter and her classmates. Many of them forced their will on our children. With Acellus, my daughter could work at a much faster pace than all of the local school's honors classes allowed. My daughter went from being picked on for being the smartest in the class to being able to learn freely with no judgement of her intelligence. In public school, there were teachers that overlooked her to be "fair" to other students who were unfairly placed in honors classes. Whether you need special classes for learning disabilities or for high intelligence, every student should be celebrated. With Acellus, my daughter has never been bullied for her high A's in every class or her 4.64 weighted GPA. She has not once had to share in a poor grade because of lazy teachers constantly doing group projects so that they have less to grade. Acellus works on merit. If you work hard, you get a good grade. If you need to help, you can get the help you need. Like all schools, there may be a few glitches here and there, but with patience and kindness, every issue we have come across has been respectfully addressed. This is my daughter's third year with Acellus. She has a 4.0 GPA and, as mentioned above, a 4.64 weighted GPA. She applied to our state's top colleges (UGA, GaTech, and Emory University) and was accepted to all three Early Action. She was even awarded a renewable scholarship of $84k to attend Emory University. My daughter has earned a 35 on her ACT and will graduate with 17 AP credits as well as the honor of the AP Scholar with Distinction award that she received as a sophomore. Acellus does teach their students well and without judgement or without the ability to humiliate or harm your child in front of their peers. Your children are safe from peer bullying as well. I have listened to so many of the lessons with my daughter, and together, we love to learn from the weekly Science Live sessions. Whether you are full tuition or use the scholarship options, it's so worth it to get your child into a great college, or to have them graduate intelligent and head into the workforce!"
"I am a student, so I may be a little biased. However, I find the explanations to be terrible. I'm taking AP Music theory as one of my classes, and Ky Hascall (the teacher) does not do well whatsoever. He makes 20 minute explanations for something that can be taught in 5. I have legitimately learned more watching an hour of YouTube videos than a third of the entire course. Another thing, the German class is terrible. The teacher spends way too long repeating herself and going over unimportant words. She does not do well in explaining effectively how to speak German. The biggest problem I have, however, is what happens if you fail an assignment/exam. You have to watch the entire video lesson again, without any ability to skip directly to where you failed. There are help videos made by the teachers that you can watch while doing an assignment. Some teachers don't even make these, making it impossible to pass the course without cheating or watching a 20 minute video multiple times. And finally, when you fail an exam it makes you retake it (you have no choice other than to retake it). First it makes you go through an exam recovery where you do the ENTIRE EXAM AGAIN. The only difference is the fact that it's labeled as "exam recovery". Then only after you PASS the exam recovery can you do the actual exam. Now this wouldn't be too bad of a problem, if the exam's were short, and some are. However, I've been stuck on this one AP Chemistry exam that's 50+ questions long. Most questions taking 5-10 minutes to complete. There are so many better options out there that actually teach you. I don't know why Acellus even has half-decent reviews. My guess is either parents aren't listening to their children (which is a whole other problem entirely), or it's being inflated by staff of the company. Either way, remove a couple stars off the average rating before choosing to pay for it."
"My daughter is graduating 1 year early because of changing from public school. They care about her learning and she learns better. Thanks Acellus Academy"
"Today Acellus implemented a change that prevents students from working quickly through their courses. I complained, and they kicked us out of the program. I did get a refund, but what about the time my child wasted? Now she can’t even finish those credits on their new, slow timeline. They don’t care that she might not graduate on time. The rep I talked to claimed that the program was never meant to be a way for a child to earn credits at an accelerated pace, despite anything on the website that talks about flexibility, so if that’s what you’re looking for, look elsewhere. And if you want a program that will communicate with you about changes in advance, look elsewhere. And if you want a program with a staff that will take your concerns seriously rather than attempting to convince you that you’re a bad parent for getting what you paid for, look elsewhere. The quality of the materials is mediocre, fairly low rigor, and aggressively boring."
