Reviews
"Went to visit some family at the resort. Ice truck parked in the drive so we could not drive by. The person walks out, does not introduce himself and starts firing questions off at us. When I asked who he was, his reply was " I'm the F&#$ing owner. Things escalated after that as he continued to curse and tried to intimate us. He then told us to leave his property and he was calling the cops. If this is his definition of customer service then I was glad not to have stayed there. Just be warned if you are looking for lodging. There are many options in the area."
"The lodge from Drity Dancing this is not, but it is a quaint, rustic retreat with a nice view of the lake. Pulling into the lodge you'll notice a patch of fresh asphalt, an improvement on the old road I've been told. We were greeted.. welcomed...scoffed at by a women who advised us to go slow on the new road. She checked us in, and we proceeded to the cabins. Our cabins we pretty much what we expected. Two bedroom, small living space, bathroom and galley kitchenette. Both cabins had a deck that overlooked the lake. We quickly put away our personal belongings and headed to our boat slip. The ramp on the right side of the resort is a bit tricky on an angle. However, the ramp on the left is perfect! I do wish that the dock would have been given a spider web check in the mornings, that courtesy would have been much appreciated. We enjoyed the ice cream social that took place on Tuesday night and the fabulous firework show for the 4th! We found that the owners attended to our needs, picked up our trash and swapped out towels. We enjoyed our weeks stay and will be back! Enjoying life 1 sip, 1 bite, and 1 small town at a time. Explore everything!"
"In short: Absolutely terrible, with the only expection being the okay-ish view of the lake. It's not often that a place leaves me with such a sour taste in my mouth that I feel compelled to leave a review as a warning. There's only so much a decent looking website and the promise of a nice stay can do, but even those pleasantries are quickly forgotten upon arriving. From the start, the buildings don't exude that welcoming presence you'd expect as you prepare for a relaxing weekend. They're small and are even smaller on the inside. If you're the type of person where outside appearances don't matter and it's about what's inside that counts, well it gets worse. The inside is about what you'd expect based on the outside. It's that sort of run down feeling you start to get and slowly build as you examine the surroundings. To put things plainly, safety is not the first concern on the lodge owners' minds. While I could overlook the stained walls where the AC units are, the many small black flies that are common in areas where sewage is, or the stains on the beds, as gross as that is, the missing smoke detectors and half places ones were quite concerning. A quick survey of the outside reveals a deck with side rails that about to give. Then there's the missing caulking in the shower pan that has allowed water to leak into the floor and do who knows how much damage (this rots the wood and makes the floor more likely to fall in). So, now that you have an idea of what the lodging is like, let's talk about the service and management. If you can make it past everything else, this is not a place you should stay if you expect outstanding customer service or for potential grievances to be addressed. Management will take issue with minor things and will punish you for perceived or imagined slights. An attitude best described as childish, at best. As an example, parking is limited to gravel areas and there are no signs indicating where you can or can't park. So something that may look like gravel could be somewhere that isn't for parking. Rather than the company simply asking that you move if you inadvertently parked in the wrong area, they will take a far more petty route. In our case, refusing to rent us a boat. And if your weekend included a boat rental, the only recourse is to find somewhere else to rent or stay. That is what I highly encourage anyone thinking about staying here to do. I made sure to take pictures of all the nonsense and end our stay before it really began. I advise you seek lodging elsewhere unless you want to gamble the enjoyment of your trip on the wild temperament of management or risk your life/family's lives due to their obvious disregard for safety."
"This was my first visit to TRL. Drove 8 hours from Chicago to spend the weekend (Thurs.-Mon) with 5 friends. We. had adjoining cabins overlooking the lake. Plenty of room for 6, large spacious deck and beautiful view of the lake. The cabins were very clean, the grounds of the resort were well taken care of and nice to take a walk. This city girl was able to swim in the lake, boat and enjoy nature with friends all weekend and loved it! The owners, Bob and Mary, were lovely hosts and made my group feel very welcome at their resort. We all agreed that we would love to do another girl's trip there next year!"
"Absolutely one of the best weekend family trips to TRL. Crest lodge/ Bob and Mary were spectacular! They went above and beyond to ensure our party of 7 were well taken care of. They were immediate to respond to a mechanical issue involving one of the pontoons we rented and went the extra mile to ensure there wasn't any other issues prior to us leaving the dock in the replacement rental. The cabin was very clean, well stocked and very comfortable beds. We did notice a slight odor whenever we used hot water from any of the taps. However we related it more to the rustic setting/lake property than to anything the owners could control. Bob, Mary and their son were all exceedingly great at checking on our party, were always very friendly and just overall superb!"
