Reviews
"These people, barely maintenance the apartments or upkeep it and chalk it up to finances as an excuse. Thanks to the property manager or so in the management company. Another example of people barely trying and getting paid more than what they should"
"Has a musty smell when u first walk in, elevator hasn't ran for over 3 years. Keep promising to fix but haven't yet."
"Easy bus access, close to downtown night life, quick trips to Green or Sherms Thunderbird for shopping."
"I lived in the Kohlagen building for almost 3 years and moved out two years ago. The building itself is nice, the hallways and stairways are scary and in need of a serious update. Once you are inside the units the are cute with historic woodwork which is beautiful. That being said the rest of my review is not so nice. The manager Ken is downright rude. I was a good tenant, always paid my rent on time and never had complaints from my neighbors about anything. I had planned on living in the building until I can buy a house in a few years from now, a few things happened and I knew I had to get out. Six months before moving out my car was vandalized in the parking lot behind the building. This lot is designated parking for tenants only. Ken advertises the building as having the best security for the value or something like that. When I moved in I knew the area has a lot of homeless people hanging around because the mission where they can get free meals is only two blocks away. I felt okay about having a nice car in such a questionable neighborhood because Ken brags about having security cameras in the parking lot. Well my car was vandalized at night, basically someone jumped up on the roof and caved the roof in. To my shock and horror when i told Ken about it he casually said he would check the cameras and videos from that night. I had to call him a couple days later to find out if he had checked. He said that nothing was caught on the camera. Well I was parked in plain view of the camera I know this because he leaves the monitor of his computer on half the time in his office which is in a common area in the basement and there is a large window where you can see right into his office. Come to find out the reason the vandalizim was not caught on video was due to lack of lighting in the parking lot. Other tenants told me stories of their cars being broken into, and one guy even told me that the wheels and tires were taken from one side of his car and it was left sitting on blocks, again Ken did nothing about it and nothing was on the security camera because it happened at night. Another thing that really made me want to move was a situation with Ken involving my guest. I spoke to Ken one day and explained to him that I was having a friend from out of town come stay with me for a few weeks. He gave me a set of keys for her to have access to the building, I figured everything was fine since i spoke with him about it first. He flipped out on my friend for doing laundry in the coin operated machines in the basement. I asked him why he had a problem with it and he said that my guest could not do laundry and could not be in the building while I was at work. He knew I work full time and did not say anything about her not being in the building when i was gone. It was embarassing and completely uncalled for. Im a grown up, professional in my 30s and so is my friend, he treated us like kids causing trouble. My apartment was on the west side of the building which overlooks a lovely church with beautiful stained glass and a small park across the street. The park is constantly filled with homeless people, I don't have a problem with homeless people and do have some compassion for their situation. I tried to see in a positive light that I might not have a lot in life but I at least have a job and a home. My view on that changed when i literally stood in my apartment and watched a homeless man take a poop behind a bench in the park. The icing on the cake was another incident with Ken. I put an a/c unit in my window and he flipped out on me about it saying he had to install it for safety reasons. While that makes sense his whole approach was very rude. I asked him why he has to be so rude about everything and he asked my why I live there!!!! That is the day I put in my 30 day notice to move out."
