"Safety Concerns and Unresolved Issues at Metropolitan Place Apartments, Renton, WA We were initially drawn to Metropolitan Place Apartments due to its proximity to public transportation—a significant factor for our convenience. However, our experience quickly revealed unsettling issues that compelled us to reconsider signing a lease. Firstly, the elevators in the building emitted a strong odor that couldn't be attributed solely to pet neglect, as the management suggested. Upon further investigation through reviews, we discovered disturbing reports of unauthorized individuals freely accessing the building. These outsiders not only loitered in the hallways but also engaged in inappropriate behaviors, including urinating in the elevators. Given that I frequently return home from work at 3 am, such circumstances raised serious safety concerns. When we communicated our apprehensions to the office, the response was far from reassuring. The manager's demeanor was notably condescending, and their handling of our deposit felt unjust, especially considering the prolonged wait for an approval decision. As a senior citizen, the deposit holds particular significance for me, making their dismissive attitude even more disappointing. Despite promises to address the issue through Wasatch Customer Care, the outcome remained unchanged, leaving me questioning the company's integrity and commitment to tenant safety. In summary, our experience with Metropolitan Place Apartments underscores the importance of thorough research and caution when selecting a residence, as well as the need for property management to prioritize tenant safety and respect."
"I have had nothing but problems since I moved into this apartment. Before I even was able to move a single item in the apartment on move-in day, the apartment complex was unreachable for almost 3 hours passed the time I was supposed to receive my keys. Another thing to add, at this point, I had not even done a walkthrough or seen the apartment I was moving into because the complex was only doing virtual walkthroughs due to COVID. The property management also wanted to see if I could move in the afternoon even though I had been charged a prorated rent for that day and the days leading to the end of the month. I did not end up getting my keys or access to the building until almost 3pm which means I was still moving in things at around midnight on day one. Not a great start. Then, as time went on, I quickly discovered that the leasing office team does a terrible job at answering the phone OR at attending to tenant needs in a relatively quick manner. They provide a phone number that 90% of the time goes to a "Call Center" who can only "send a message for the leasing agents to contact" me and also tell me that e-mail is often better at communicating with them. I though being close to the downtown area would be cool, however the people that surround the building on a day to day basis are extremely sketchy and borderline scary. The parking lot below the building belongs to the Park & Ride and we are told that tenants are not supposed to park there, yet there is no enforcement of that. Almost regularly, there are drug addicts smoking all kinds of things in the stairwell that leads down to the apartments actual tenant parking area on the B side of the building. That leads to the next best part: about every 2-3 weeks or so, the buildings fire alarm goes off. It is obviously extremely loud not only in the hallways of the building but rings in each individual apartment. Last week, a notice was put onto the door leading to the public side walk and stated "The required fire sprinkler and/or fire alarm system in this building has experienced a failure and does not meet the minimum requirements for fire and life safety per International Fire Code section 901.7" (Picture attached) Now, I am not sure if the frequency of the fire alarm going off is due to this flawed sprinkler system or homeless/drug induced people pulling the fire alarms down in the Park & Ride Parking Lot which causes the WHOLE building's fire alarms to go off or not, but frankly, to be paying as much as I do for this apartment, it is extremely annoying. In conclusion, if you are looking for even a half-decent apartment for yourself or your family; this one may appear to be nice and welcoming. It is for sure not. Find another place to call home. I'm also sure this review will be taken down quickly by the apartment management company, so hopefully you see this before it does."
"Apartments inside are great. If you are in one of the top units your patio is not covered, a bit strange since it rains 9 out of the 12 months. This should be fixed. Gym is really small and was closed during regular hours and the BBQ grills did not work when needed in the summer time, also not covered."
"Convenient location and could be great, but it's not. Thankfully, I was only forced to live here over the summer on a short term contract. As another reviewer mentioned, the amount of human urine on these premises is quite astounding. The elevator for the B building often reaks of old, rotten urine, and has an aroma similar to a highly frequented yet unkept bar restroom. This is due to the pools of sitting human urine at various places around the apartment complex. Avoiding the elevator does not significantly improve your experience. The stair wells are littered with trash and other foreign substances. There is also a vomit stain on the wall near the elevator that has not been cleaned over the three month period I lived here. Fully loaded dog excrement bags can be found strewn throughout the "secure" parking garage. The list goes on and on. The security of this apartment is also questionable. The stairs have locks that appear to require the use of the issued key fob, but a week before I moved out, I learned that these are just for show. The door going to the stairs from the street at the entrance/exit to the parking garage requires this key fob for access, but once you're in, the other locks provide no added security. An unknown, intoxicated woman tried to force her way into my apartment in the middle of the night after minutes of pounding on the door. Simply put, these apartments don't feel safe. I wouldn't be comfortable with a female family member living at this complex alone. The maintenance is terrible. I requested someone to come fix my leaking toilet and someone came shortly thereafter. However, the only action that was taken was to leave a piece of paper with a written note that my toilet was functioning properly when it in fact was not. I put in another maintenance request because, of course, my toilet was still leaking. No response was ever received and it leaked the rest of my stay. Some say the toilet is still leaking to this day... The actual apartment unit was nice but the hallways always have a slight hint of marijuana. I was in a first floor unit with a balcony. This was enjoyable except for the fact that people on upper units liked to throw their trash down below. And, unsurprisingly, people in upper units urinated onto lower balconies and the street. One positive aspect of this apartment complex is that I actively avoided making trash due to the fact that it required a trip to the trash room. This room contains two dumpsters, one of which was intended for recycling. It is not used in this manner. Trash is thrown in both dumpsters and frequently in no dumpster at all. I felt dirty after entering this God forsaken area. Another minor annoyance is that the leasing office is in another building a block away. This office, however, even during business hours, requires a key fob for access. The key fob for these apartments doesn't gain you access, so you have to either wait for the office to let you in or come in behind someone who does live in that building. These apartments have potential but have a long, urine-soaked way to go."
"I moved to this place three months ago with my boyfriend. Since then: His car was broken into, despite them having a "Secure" parking garage and several things were stolen Our washing machine broke one night spewing water and smoke all over the kitchen, I called the emergency repair line and was told that despite our apartment filling with black smoke and tons of water pouring out that this was a non-emergency and they could have someone come to look at it tomorrow. The next day I was told they'd be there at 11, at 10:30 I was called and told they couldn't be there until the afternoon, probably around 1 so I went to run some errands, at 11:30 I got a call saying they were outside my door. I had to rush home and let them in. When I arrived the first thing the repair man said was "So you're the one who broke the washer?" I explained the problem, he said "I'm going to turn on the washer" I said "it will start heavily leaking again, please make sure it doesn't end up all over the floor like it did last night" He turned it on and let the water run all over the floor. He said "Do you have towels to clean this up?" I said "No, I used all my towels last night." he said "I'll be back," and left, two hours later I mopped up the water myself and called the office to see where they'd gone. Apparently they went and did another job but would be back "soon" an hour later another man showed up. When I opened the door and said "hello" he began giggling, disturbingly. I let him in since he had the washer with him and he started to work, I continued to go about my business, but whenever I went into the kitchen, where he was, he would begin laughing again. Then his phone rang. His ringtone was of a woman screaming. He picked up the phone and took a personal call about his dinner that night, eventually he finished and left. When I went to inspect his work I discovered that to move the old washer out, he had ripped the doors of the room off of their hinges and had not re-installed them correctly. The doors were now crooked. I called the office again and asked them to please send a different repairman up to fix the work done since the man who had installed the washer had made me feel uncomfortable for the reasons listed. I was told if I wanted the work done today it would have to be him since no one else was on the clock or I could wait till the next day. I said that was unacceptable because I couldn't take any more time off work and I refused to have that man in my home again. I was basically told those were my options and to suck it up. When my boyfriend came home he was able to fix it in less than a minute. There are a bunch of people who don't live in the building that hang around the entrance to the "secure" part of the parking garage, they drink booze, smoke weed, and litter the stairs with garbage, occasionally after they leave there will be a lingering smell of urine. Other residents have been threatened by these individuals when they ask them to leave. We supposedly have "Security" but I have never seen a security worker in our building We supposedly have a cleaning crew to take care of the communal areas, garbage and trash sits in the hallways for days until a resident bites the bullet and cleans it up Our latest issue inside the apartment is mold-related, our sliding glass door was not installed properly causing leaks to appear inside the glass and mold to grow on the tracks, there was also a massive crack in the drywall, over a foot long. They pushed out the repair date repeatedly, they left black smudges all over my trim, they had to come back twice to repair the crack which still is not done, and when I said there was an identical issue in the bedroom they came when I wasn't home "investigated" it, said it wasn't a problem and left. they never leave paperwork saying they've completed work and last time they didn't give notice before entering my apartment when I wasn't home, very illegal. And the building-wide fire alarm goes off sometimes in the dead of night for no reason, like last week at 3 AM, I had work the next day."
