About the ReClaim It
ReClaim It is a unique institution located at 1 North Killingsworth Street in Portland, Oregon, United States. This furniture store and home goods store is dedicated to reducing waste and promoting creative reuse in the community. Run by the nonprofit organization Cracked Pots, ReClaim It salvages materials from the Metro Transfer Station operated by Recology for artists, neighbors, and DIYers to reuse, repair, and reimagine.
Every year, ReClaim It celebrates Earth Day weekend with their popular Plant Fest, which will take place from April 19-21, 2024. This event features native flora from Bosky Dell Natives, garden starts from Lil Starts Farm, can and bottle recycling through BottleDrop Give to benefit their mission, live music from local bands, and a plant swap. Plant Fest is a fun and festive way to show gratitude to the planet for its constant renewal.
In addition to their annual event, ReClaim It also showcases stunning garden art crafted from reclaimed and recycled materials in two private gardens in inner SE Portland. The art must be composed of at least 80% reclaimed material and can be functional or decorative. Since 2014, their volunteers have saved over 900,000 pounds of reusable materials and returned them to the community.
If you are passionate about waste reduction, creative reuse, and have an artistic eye, ReClaim It welcomes you to join their mission. Their goal is to reduce landfill waste and raise awareness about creative reuse through partnerships with Recology and training volunteers to collect items for reuse in homes, gardens, and creative projects. Nothing is considered junk at ReClaim It - every piece can be used creatively for practical or artistic purposes.
As a 501(c)(3) organization, ReClaim It operates under the name Cracked Pots and invites community members to get involved through volunteering, participating in art shows, or connecting with them to learn more about their mission, vision, and commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. Visit ReClaim It today to discover unique treasures and support their efforts in promoting sustainability and creativity in the community.

Reviews of ReClaim It
"The place was really cool but one staff member ruined the experience. I had come for a sewing machine a friend told me about. I restore vintage machines. This one was priced at $25 and was missing some parts that would cost about $35 dollars. It was in a cheap pressboard cabinet that I didn’t want and didn’t have room for. I told the girl at the cash register that I wanted to remove the machine from the cabinet but would be more than happy to pay the full price for just the machine . She was very nice but didn’t know what to say and went to get someone else. A lady came back and stared at me without a word until I explained I was going to buy the machine but had no need for the cabinet and I wanted to leave it for them to be able to sell it, making 2 sales instead of one. She immediately said no. I said I was planning to pay the full price. She then said I could pay double or take the table! Her voice became sarcastic and she was loud enough to be heard across the store. I told her I had no use for the cabinet and would end up having to throw it away. She repeated 3 times I could pay double or take it all, those were my options today, she said, loudly and rudely. I said double would be $50 and the machine was useless with the missing parts. I thought the store was about not throwing things away. She said they were short staffed and couldn’t take it apart. I assured her I didn’t need help taking it apart. Again she loudly stated my options were to take it all or pay double. That was my only choice. The rest of the time I was there I noticed every customer make lower offers on their items and each was accepted. I had offered to pay full price and leave them the table to make another sale. They even had other sewing machines they could have put in the cabinet. The woman was sarcastic, rude and she spoke to me like I was a child. I’ll never go back there. My friend who was with me heard the woman but didn’t realize she was talking to me. She thought the woman was being rude too. She won’t be going back either. I ended up buying a screwdriver along with the sewing machine and once outside with my purchases, I used the screwdriver to remove the machine from the cabinet, which I then left outside the store with all of the other stuff set up out there. It was my first visit to the store and I was pretty excited to check it out. I left feeling mistreated and I couldn’t shake the feeling for hours."
"Super cool little shop with a huge selection! I had a great time volunteering here!"
"I love this place as a crafter! They have a variety of fun things to spark the imagination, for super cheap. I love the fabric scraps, stamps, and scrapbooking things you can find. Thanks for all you do, ReClaim It!!"
"This store is fantastic. All salvaged and rescued before being trashed at the landfill transfer station. Perfect combination of thrift store art/treasures and art supplies and tools. And garage tools! For building, fixing and repairing to keep even more stuff useful instead of useless. Zero-waste dream come true."
"Reclaim it is a fantastic re purpose store, all kinds of run, odd, overused items from walking sticks, magazines, games, puzzles, toys, tools, kitchen wear, furniture, and more. Recreat something fun from something old. Lots of fun stuff to dig through at moderate prices."
