"Greens, fairways and tee boxes all in great shape. Cart paths are a little rutted out, but hey; it's their carts. Would like to see more signs, slightly confusing in places for a first time player. Carts were in great shape, staff was friendly and helpful. The pattern was full but we moved along at a great pace. All in all a great facility and one that I'll be returning to for round #2."
"A lot more bad to say than good here. I really wanted to like this course coming in and was mentally prepared for the conditions to be mediocre but it’s just disappointing. If you’re a decent golfer and want to try and play a average round you take even semi serious then don’t come here. If you’re new to golf then I wouldn’t recommend coming here either. It’s in too bad of shape to have any chance at being a normal round and way too narrow with so many blind shots that don’t have the maintenance to accommodate a new golfers game. If you’re landing in the ideal spots every time you can occasionally find decent grass to play off of. Some random greens are in great shape but most are pretty beat up. Traps look like they exist but are just weeds, overgrown grass and hard dirt. So many houses and tee boxes are too close and have no netting or protection making it pretty dangerous. Everything is overgrown. Some benches have bushes covering them. Cart paths have overgrown shrubs blocking the path. Mixed dirt and cement that isn’t groomed can cause a pretty jarring ride and catch you by surprise. I played weekday morning so it was very open and fast. Didn’t have the wait times mentioned in other reviews. If it did I wouldn’t have been able to wait it out for this course. Many people mention the price as a plus which is true but you can pay just a little more at a number of courses close by that will give you a much more enjoyable round, beginner or experienced."
"If you like crummy golf courses that make you wait an hour after your originally booked tee time because they ran out of functioning carts, then this is your course. This golf course is inherently not too bad, esp in the winter months when it is a bit greener & cooler than the usual parched-earth, 100+ degree weather that Escondido usually experiences. The green in the winter is almost exclusively weeds which are growing just about everywhere except the greens-- the fairway, sand traps, rough, sometimes in between the gravel on the cart path. There are a lot of spots that are just bare earth or giant scars in the earth from the infrequent but heavy rainstorms that do not occur often enough in this area. Our golf partner summed up the sandtraps with this quote: "i've seen more sand in a bag of concrete." The customer service here was subpar. When we asked what caused the delay we had experienced, the answer we got was "we need more women around here with [desirable appearance]". The answer he should have given us needed to be around improving the number of functioning carts or keeping golfers teeing off on time. Staff must be incredibly hard to find during COVID. Grading the course's land so that the rain and runoff can be channeled productively is something this place desperately needs. In all fairness, it looks like some improvement along these lines is either in progress or is planned, evident by the construction of new tee boxes on the back 9. The course layout has so much potential here but it needs a ton of work or renovation. If there were an HGTV series on golf course renovations, they should use this place as a starting point because the course does offer some incredible views of the surrounding mountain ranges. Interestingly, this is one of the few courses that affords views of both the Transverse and Peninsular Ranges in Southern California from its higher elevations on holes 9, 10, 13, and 14, and surrounding neighborhood homes are a range of conditions from well-kept new construction to mid-century fixer-uppers waiting to be fixed up. The location's proximity to I-15 makes it a reasonable drive from most places in San Diego or Riverside counties. Get on it, Boulder Oaks! In the meantime, we will golf somewhere else that honors tee time reservations."
"Okay, some are going to say this course is too short, too easy, and oddly laid out. All of this is probably true. So play from the tips if you want a challenge. Or play from the white tees and have a great time. (Big believer that the majority of golfers play from the wrong tees). Personally, I find this course to be a great value, and a heck of a lot of fun. Hit your driver 210 yards, and reach for your 8 iron. And it's the best value I know of in the entire county. The owner and staff are awesome. It is obvious they are working extremely hard to make Boulder Oaks a great experience for everyone."
