Montejo Apartments

"My partner and I were really looking forward to moving into the Montejo apartments and everything was going smoothly at first. The place we wanted to move into had some pest activity, so they pushed back our move-in date, which was understandable. Come to the mid-week of our scheduled date to move out, electricity has been paid, renter’s insurance has been paid, our deposit has been paid, we were informed that our move-in date had to be pushed back another two weeks. To stay another two weeks and have to pay rent for both places would have been financially unsound. So we made the decision to stay and have our deposit returned. When we were informed that only 1321.25 of the $1800+ deposit would be returned, I didn’t want to believe we were being swindled. But after not hearing any response via email after sending proof to management of the withdrawal amount from my bank statement, I’m truly disappointed and dumbfounded. This month has already been so difficult on a personal level, this added burden has only made it worse. I don’t know what type of shady business antics is happening with Essex, but this behavior is unethical and corrupt. Ignoring the truth will only cause further harm."

"For me, this is the worst apartment ever. We called the office (emergency) because some were leaking in the kitchen, and the water was running nonstop. They said will come later but trust me, they will never come. DO NOT CHOOSE THIS APARTMENT!!!!"

"Would not recommend, the staff is hard to get a hold of when you need to speak to someone. There is no one on site to help with issues that need attention. The place has become very dirty since I’ve been here, I’ve seen people living on the streets enter the community to use the amenities."

"I've been dealing with the "property manangers" for a while now, the visitor parking lot is abused daily, so if you live here ask for your money back for parking! They are scamming everyone! They email us every month about parking regulations, meanwhile it takes a literal act of God for them to tow a car that is in a space it's not supposed to be...for a week now!!!! But they did tow my car from my actual spot one night, that was nice to wake up to, being towed from the parking spot I actually pay for. >:/ I finally had pictures, time stamped, emails daily, and they said they still needed proof that the cars were in violation. PROOF?!? What more can I possibly do? Get a tire sample? Time travel? They don't come to the property to take care of anything, its impossible to get them to help. The neighborhood is falling apart, they abuse the staff that actually works on site, and half the time I call in they just don't answer. Since we have moved in, they took out the leasing office, removed our water source, and"

"I wish I had read more of the reviews before applying. The employees are responsive, helpful, and nice UNTIL you apply. This seems to be the case for a lot of the residents there from what I read. I applied because they were so responsive and nice and they pushed back my move in date. I understand things happen, people don’t want to move out, etc. but I was looking for a place ASAP so I told them I wanted to cancel my application. I asked them to refund my deposit (not the application fee) since that is not what I put down my deposit for.and now they ignore all my emails and my calls (they see caller ID)so I’m out $400 which would’ve been helpful to know before even touring or applying. Even when I was touring the place, you had to call them for them to open the gate, which no one even answers. Please don’t be like me and apply to live here. It was my first time looking at apartments and it really really really sucks that this was my first experience."
