"Because I've lived here for nearly 28 years and remember Peggy Dry (owner), Connie Wilgus, their shared vision of what community means and which they actively created through decades of property managers until 3 years ago, I'm not going to completely obliterate all the good that's kept me here and loving my home during my first 25-1/2 years. There are good people who live here. Since our most recent manager was hired in August 2020, there's been a palpable piece by piece destruction of community-building. The warm aroma of freshly baked Mrs Fields cookies creating an inviting, open door policy with Management Teams as long as I'd been here has been replaced by an authoritative tone that they're apparently unaware of (but we on the receiving end aren't) and firehose of repetitious emails of what we CAN'T; DON'T; YOU'LL BE TOWED; you'll be CHARGED; and WE'RE GOING TO ROLL THE SECURITY MONITORS TO FIND OUT WHO DID THIS with the very cameras that were meant to replace the 24 hour Security Guards we alway had. Even when contacting the office for a solution specifically to avoid late fees being assessed in rent, you receive the solutions (good!) followed by the consequences if you don't. Why not stop with solution? It makes it painful to communicate with this Management Team. The past year in particular has taught me I need to start by putting everything in writing rather than trust in a phone call. And that most first attempts requiring a response, however mundane, unless it's about rent, are ignored unless you're persistent. A year ago, I had to hire an attorney to help enforce reasonable handicapped accommodations afforded under California law during a 6-month long parking lot retrofit requiring cars to be moved off site each day. I was just recovering from my 14th spinal fusion and the manager was fully apprised well in advance. She repeatedly told me, don't worry about it. When notice arrived that our part of the building had to start moving cars in 4 business days, I called the manager. My requests (including 4 potential solutions) were met with "no," " I'll have to talk to my supervisor," and silence up to the last minute. After my attorney sent a demand letter, at 4:57 The Evening Before everyone in my building had to start parking on the street, I received a call from the manager saying, "I was always going to help you." In a December meeting with the manager, after 5 months of a well-documented, recorded, extraordinary noise issue that disturbed numerous other neighbors as well, the manager blamed me for harassing the uncompromising neighbor by complaining to the manager about it. It was insulting and I felt gaslit. It was in that moment I recognized how inhospitable our Management team is. The coup de grâce was when the ceiling collapsed in my bedroom closet from the heavy rains in January. I was and am still on crutches. Maintenance said they'd inform the manager I'd need help clearing out that closet. Based on past experience, I told this person she'd probably say no, but he was going to ask anyway. Help never was offered or arrived other than to repair the building. I had to do it alone and pay someone to carry countless lawn-sized garbage bags to the Trash Room for weeks. When it was all over, the manager called and in her sweetest voice said, "Oh I woudda helped you." It's just words. I now have 2 more collapses in my spine and neck and permanent nerve damage making it extremely challenging even to use crutches without my arm going numb. To a person, and I know so many residents in each of the 4 buildings, I have yet to come across anyone who has good things to say about this management team. We all feel it, yet it seems to come as a complete surprise to the Management team itself. Final comment ~ the manager accompanied plumbers two weeks ago when they entered each apartment. She told me she was surprised by so many peoples' reactions to her showing up at their doors. "Everyone around here has changed since covid". If it's everyone else, could the common denominator be you?"
"My stay at Casa De Marina has been spectacular so far in the wonderful neighborhood with the most friendly management team. Karra has been with me since day one of move in and has been professional throughout covid times. Maintenance requests were always handled within 24 hours. (Luis from maint team is such a nice person btw!) Lots of restaurants and parks within 3-5 minutes of driving. I was given the newly renovated unit and only maintenance we had to do was light bulbs going out due to age."
"Beautiful apartments and quiet neighborhood. The worst property management company I've ever encountered.. Completely unhelpful and unsupportive. Unless you have a maintenance request, getting any assistance from Karra and the rest of the property management team is impossible. If you never have to have support from the property management, this will be a great place to live."
"Edit: okay so after I left the previous review, they reached out to me, saw the damage and realized that this wasn't like... a minor issue! They apologized and recognized that my frustration was warranted, but are doing their best to deal with it ASAP! Tons of empathy and understanding happening now! I am now a happy tenant and am very glad to say that things ARE being addressed, thanks to Kara and Louis. Previous review: Welp. I have lived here since this past summer. Hoping to get out this next one. Initially I loved it here! Viviana was attentive and helpful, now I dont know! I submitted maintenance requests on multiple occasions, only to either be called mid workday after submitting it, be told via email “we tried to contact you”, and then have the entire thing marked as “resolved” all before I got off work. I have black mold in my walls, there are tiny black worms leaking into my bathtub, and every night when my upstairs neighbor showers, I get about a quart of water dripping into my kitchen. Totally appalled at the lack of interest in helping tenants."
"This is the worst managed apartment building that I have ever lived in. First of all, the maintenance crew will not help with the simplest of things such as lighting the pilot light for the gas heater. Apparently for "legal purposes" this is something that the gas company is responsible for. The gas company will do it for free, but there is a waiting list of 4 weeks. Meantime, we have to sleep in a freezing apartment. What the maintenance crew is allowed to do is use loud leaf blowers for cleaning. There are 4 buildings here, next to each other, sharing a parking lot. Thus, there is noise from the leaf blower that echoes around for over an hour while the cleaning is in progress. This is done several times a week. It may look like the building is new, but apparently under the skin of it, it's actually quite old because on weekly basis, we have water shutoff to do pluming work. No joke - on average at least every other week there is a day when there is no water. I work from home and having no water is quite a hassle (can't flush the toilet, wash hands, etc.). By the way, I read the bad reviews of this place 12 months ago, before moving in, thinking that by the time we move it, all of the fixes will be over. So it's been a year yet it's rare to have a week go by without some sort of a notice of ether having no water, or having to move the car out of the parking space dew to some repairs, or something of that nature. Another problem with this apartment complex is that the parking lot is right outside of the bedroom windows. Thus, in the morning, you'd hear every single car being driven out as people are leaving for work. So yes, you'd be waken up much sooner in the morning that you'd like. I don't think I have ever written such a negative review about any experience, but I do hope someone saves themselves the trouble by reading this one. UPDATE: I wrote this review a when I first moved into the apartment. Ever since then the management changed, the staff changed, etc. In fact, I'd say that the last year of living there (I have moved since), the place has gotten quite a bit better. So I am adding a couple of extra "stars"."
