Emanuel Medical Center : Emergency Room

"If you’re looking for care and competence….. you won’t find it at Emanuel. The lives they’ve saved are dumb luck because the people they’ve let die were easily savable. Do yourself and your loved ones a favor. RUN from this hospital! I’m used to the “scripted” reply’s.. What you people should focus on is the concerns of the patients. 30+ years and it ALWAYS been like this… Send someone in with severe pain and you’ll find ignorance, uncaring and incompetence…. Like the idiots with degrees can’t distinguish real pain from fake…. Imagine going in to get help, they test your blood and run diagnostics then cut you loose without telling you ANYTHING remotely helpful… might as well be a Walmart associate. It’s laziness and uncaring ethics."

"My husband came in because his bladder was full, he was in pain & unable to urinate and also had numbness in his legs. We checked in at 9 pm and they were quick with giving him every test you can think of but didn't get to bladder until 3:30 a.m. - but before that doctor "M. Al-Hasan" came in and asked what meds my husband was taking, as he listed them the doc would say "I don't care about that, what else" over and over then told my husband that all his pains were from "Anxiety"??? WTH? My husband has diverticulosis and had been taking Ibuprofen for about a week I asked the doc could that have triggered an episode, because he should have not been taking because of the diverticulosis he said "where did you learn that? On the internet" and that the only thing my husband had to do is to learn how to meditate - we were shocked on the rudeness and uncareing attitude then later the nurses or students came and said we were being released and were given Nausea medication??? After we told the nurses we did not drive all this way for this?? what about his bladder??? And let me tell you, we were angry, the nurses said they would have to check with doc THEN AND ONLY THEN did the doc come back and checked his bladder and kidneys only to see he had an enlarged prostate-horrible!! I think the nurses were nice and attentive, but lots of students threw me off."

"I wish i could rate 0 stars. My son was admitted on 1/26/24 after an unexpected emergency surgery, he was sent to floor 3 after surgery. After the surgery nurse was taking him to the floor they said he would be on floor 2. That was not the case apparently and floor 2 got so upset that we were on their floor. Even the nurse was confused telling them who he spoke too and they confirmed floor 2. Whatever, so we get to floor 3 they settle my son in and I’m telling you these nurses had such a lack of knowledge it’s not even funny. I have no idea how they became a RN. For any questions I had concerning my son’s recovery or incisions the nurse would always say she doesn’t know and needs to ask the charge nurse. His bed speaker never worked, they never fixed that. They forgot about his antibiotics a few times and his pain meds, every single day. He got 1 sponge bath for the 4 days he was there. When he was discharged a few days later, they didn’t give him any gauze or Tegaderm to cover the incisions, they didn’t provide any information on the Dr for the follow up a week later, I literally had to call them when I got home to get that information from the nurse that discharged him. Also, the nurse couldn’t pull out his drain tube so unfortunately the Dr had to come back and do it and that traumatized my son. The doctor gave him no time to breathe or catch his breath and just yanked it out like he was extremely mad, without warning or a word. Even the nurse apologized to us and said she didn’t know he was going to do it like that. Thankfully my son’s life was saved which I’m grateful for that. But the lack of knowledge, quality care and professionalism needs to be addressed. ALOT of the staff and dr we had to deal with lacked empathy and compassion and communication with patient’s & family. This apparently seemed like a good choice to go for an emergency at the time for us, instead of going to Modesto or Merced, next time I will definitely take my family elsewhere."

"1/26/2024 Checked in at 8:10pm, got done with triage at 8:20pm and waited until 10:30pm to find out the lady in the triage didnt even put in my childs order for xray to be seen. Very unprofessional hospital. They have no empathy for the patients who are there. Oh, the reason the lady forgot was because she was too busy talking to her colleague about personal things!! SMH, IF YOU DON'T KNOW HOW TO DO YOUR JOB, THEN YOU SHOULD FIND A DIFFERENT PROFESSION!!"

"I had surgery done today. I had a great experience here at EMC, the staff was amazing which made my time and experience here wonderful. Shot out to the ladies in pre op Norma, Karla, Kimberley and Janet you ladies rock, thank you for the wonderful care. These ladies made me feel comfortable in an uncomfortable situation, they were attentive, caring and very communicative, I left this facility in good spirits. Thank you to the Staff in the OR you all were funny all I can remember is closing my eyes and going out to laughter. Not only did I have a great experience, my family members who were in the waiting room had a great experience and had wonderful things to say about the security guard there. Overall great experience with all staff starting from check in, thank you EMC you guys rock. 5⭐️"
