Reviews of Emanuel Medical Center
"Hello, my name is Dr. Tammy Woodward, PsyD and this is an edited review from my recent ER visit and subsequent stay on the 3rd floor. Please know that I am writing this new post as a form of public service to our local community. On Feb, 6th I went to the ER because I was in pain and couldn't breathe. I was shocked and scared after I was told I had a pulmonary embolism. I did worry the first two days that I might have been miss diagnosed. For some context into measuring my state of mind and just how scared I was during my whole stay on the 3rd floor. My first introduction to any type of embolism came when I was 4 or 5 years old. My grandfather passed away because we couldn't find his heating pad to help him. I still pray to God for penance because I couldn't save him—that was over 30 years ago. Life is precious and I was extremely anxious and scared that I was going to die for my penance. Plus, in the last three years, my family and I almost lost four of my sisters due to embolisms in the lungs and a major stroke. My baby sister died and was revived @ Froedyert Hospital in Milwaukee, which left her with permanent damage. My mom lost her mind when I called her to ask our judge to re-activate my living will on the 9th because a nurse named Raveen (RN) lead me to believe she was going to make me overdose and I didn't want my family thinking I committed suicide. This nurse became angry because I asked her to do her job. Yes, I was The frightening thing is fact that Raveen was angry and on the last day. I am grateful to Dr. Jacobson Dumcan, DO, and the amazing staff in Emmanuel's ER. There are no words to express my gratitude for Emmanuel Medical Center's quick catch. I preferred Emmanuel because I equated the hospital's name with strong moral character. I'm an old-school catholic born and raised in Wisconsin. As a military wife from another state, I take for granted that every healthcare provider is competent due to my state being a lockdown state and those who commit gross criminal negligence are arrested and serve time in prison. Here in California, I've noticed that hospitals and doctors are more than willing to commit medical insurance fraud, waste, and abuse. That's why I was so dumbfounded by the amount of gross criminal negligence and medical malpractice occurring on the 3rd floor. During my stay, my hospitalist was Dr. Jacobson Dumcan, DO, and I thought he was doing a great job and I didn't have many complaints. My only complaint was that he never asked me if I wanted something other than a narcotic. I hate oxy and I wasn't asked (consisted) what type of pain I was experiencing. I had enough pain meds at home. My lungs felt like I was trying to breathe underwater I was told I would only be in for observation and I could understand his stopgap medical billing reasons for trying to make me stay longer. He was doing his job and I can't be angry at his reasons why he kept me in the hospital so long. However, I know my insurance company won't believe any of the reasons provided because I had called my insurance company the day before to help case manage my healthcare. I am tired of all the healthcare fraud perpetrated by local doctors and hospitals. I didn't need to take a narcotic because my ankles only hurt when I walked on them (I needed a wheelchair and a lot of patience while trying to ambulate). I did have two amazing and wonderful nurses named Victoria and Maggie.; however, once the night shift came I knew there was something seriously wrong with the night shift. I did not realize the severity of how bad the NIGHT shift was until the 8th of February. On the 7th, most of my normal medications were never given—to include breathing treatments to help with my breathing (blood clot in lung). I also discovered that that the night nursing staffs' were required to wear different colored scrubs. I was horrified when I figured out that my RN was the horrible women that would drag me out of my bed making my foot hit the floor. told by the lazy women my RN was the poor woman in green scrubswasn't my"
"This is the second time I have come here with my daughter and the doctor see her in cold hallway all alone. I hope my insurance isn't being charged for a room. We got here at 3 and it is 8:30 now. We sat in the waiting room for most of that time. From the waiting to the hallway. Wow and they say America is not a 3 world country. I can't tell"
"We came here on 2.6.24 for my 6 year old son who sadly broke his arm. Entered around 6:30pm and left around 9:30pm. The quickest we've ever been seen. Aside from one nurse who asked "what happened" and I responded with the story and her cutting me off with "yeah yeah yeah that's enough", everything was great. My son felt safe with everyone. He was extremely nervous but they made him feel great. At one point there was someone even offering patients water and warm blankets. Which was amazing to see. Thank you for a quick but great service."
"I went in ambulance very sick they had tried to get me to sit in the lobby in my nightgown with men looking and refusing to give me a gown or blanket to cover up , these were women. This is gross , disrespectful, insulting behavior. The wait time was over 6 hours. I saw one nurse slam a door in a patient s face. They were ready to expose my nakedness to the entire room of people waiting to be seen . One nurse with a long pony tail brown hair was especially cruel to everyone. She told me to get out and discharged me because I refused to expose myself to room full of men. She said we don’t give gowns or blankets out. She opened the door and smirked smiled and said get out, I said Kaiser wouldn’t treat me like this, she said go there your discharged. So I called the manager she never came. A charge nurse with a bad attitude came and said no gowns go out, I refused to expose myself and she got mad her whole face went frowned I thought she was going to hit me. But she marched away angry and got a blanket. I’m going to agency s for assistance no one should have to walk in the patient waiting room in a night gown naked, no underwear or bra on just about naked."
"I am here with my mother in the Telemetry Rooms. Charge nurse is Brenda and the room nurse is Natalie. Edited portion: The night nurse on duty Patricia of Tuesday march 14 2023 7pm to 7am is another perfect example of rude behavior towards my mother. Can’t wait to meet her!! The assisting nurse is Sonia who has been very nice and attentive to my mothers needs. The nursing staff I think are on a 12 hour shift then possibly a 3 or 4 day work week. And then I’m sure there’s mandatory overtime because at times I think they are understaffed. So that being said I can understand why nurses may forget or simply just don’t have time to attend to every patient’s requests. However I feel that communication is the key. Honest communication and not empty promises. And then that being said. My mother’s RN is Natalie today, the second day I’ve seen her work with my mom. One notable quality I’ve seen is that Natalie is unable to smile. Not once has this girl shown any type of cheerfulness in her job. Even her voice is very monotone. But that just may be the place she’s in her life’s struggle. I say struggle because she doesn’t seem very happy while doing her job. But that is no reason for letting her patients suffer for her inequities. But again I don’t know her. I am only going by example through her services to my mother. Perhaps others are receiving excellent nursing care from her. And that being said I noticed other nurses who show the same type of attitude. As if the patients are bothering them or impeding on their day making it difficult for them to do their job. This type of job I feel requires a sense of humanity and a humbleness that will allow them to have feelings for the patients who are suffering in pain or discomfort. My mother did not want to be here. She did not make reservations and book a room for vacation at the Emmanuel Medical Center. This is where the ambulance brought her during a heart attack. We are grateful to the paramedics for saving her life. The next step is to get her back home. The hospital is working on this but it takes time. Meanwhile I can only be here at my mothers side to ensure her comfort while she’s here. So that being said if you have a family or loved one that has to be at this hospital be vigilant and watch and ask about everything be done. Medications and treatments all have to be scrutinized with the staff so that the correct care is given to the correct patient."
