"Having lived at Flats for almost a year now, I would like to give this place a better rating based on the amazing location and pretty good apartments, however there are 2 very big cons to consider: 1. Management: Management is apathetic to any requests or complaints. For over 8 months, we have asked them to reach out to our upstairs neighbors regarding dragging/moving of furniture throughout the day. These noises go on throughout the day and well into the night. Every single day, we will hear loud thumping and moving/dragging of furniture and stomping around for hours at end. Granted this is an issue with our upstairs neighbor, but management is responsible for enforcing their quiet time rules. Emails to management are useless as there is no response. I have sent multiple emails, we have gone to the office multiple times but to no avail. 2. Construction: Construction is never ending, and will cause major inconveniences. While everyone renting these apartments (at this moment at least) will go into their lease knowing this, what you will not be prepared for is the lack of communication from management regarding any upcoming/ongoing construction. When a previous project was being built underneath the apartment building construction would start from 7 AM (which falls within quiet hours) without any prior notice from Management. Only when tenants reached out to the office with noise complaints did management deem it worthwhile to send out an email regarding construction. Also be prepared for impromptu notifications regarding moving parking spots, water shutoffs and power outages. Sometimes these events get moved after you have spent time preparing for them, without any rhyme or reason. Overall, while I’ve enjoyed living near to downtown Sunnyvale in modern-ish apartments, at this price point, there is no excuse to have such a lackadaisical team managing this property. Especially when you are marketing your property as “Luxury Living”"
"I had an extremely disappointing experience with my previous landlord and apartment. To put it bluntly, it was a nightmare. Not only did I not receive my deposit back, but they also had the audacity to demand an additional $1000 from me. Their excuse? A supposed cleaning fee. I can't help but feel like I was scammed because, before checking out, I personally paid a janitor to clean the place thoroughly. What's worse, when I requested a detailed statement of these charges, they ignored my emails for a staggering two months. This level of unresponsiveness is unacceptable. I strongly discourage anyone from choosing to stay at this apartment. My experience was terrible, and I wouldn't wish it upon anyone else. My advice? Look elsewhere for a landlord who values their tenants and their hard-earned money."
"[update] the management never returned my security deposit though I asked. The management never mentioned a word that the building charges additionally for sewer, trash on top of rent, and the construction goes from 7AM to 6PM even on Saturdays. ---------------- We initially considered living in The Flats. The building is new and conveniently located near Whole Foods, Target, and a few restaurants. The light is good. The building does not have pool but it has gym. After applying and paying a $800 security deposit, we learned from the lease document that we would need to pay for trash and sewer in addition to gas, water, and electricity. We also learned that construction takes place every day from 7 AM to 6 PM, including Saturdays. We asked to withdraw our application, but The Flats did not return our $800. We found that there are hidden fees that are not disclosed until the lease document is shared, after the security deposit has been paid. We found the place to be overpriced, especially considering that construction takes place 6 days out of 7. Andrea was extremely kind and accommodating, but the management lacks transparency. We were scared to sign a contract with a landlord who charges for trash and sewer without sharing it up front. We love apartment living life style, but we ran away from this one."
"The location is convenience. However, I don't think it is good living environment due to the intense constructions going on currently and in the coming two to three years. The noice will affect your sleep in the morning and the toxic smells from the construction will make your breathing difficult and it is not good for your healthy at all. What is more, we started to noticed there are more and more homeless people wondering around near the buildings at night. So safety concern as well. If you want to live here, I would suggest that after their construction done. For now, feel free to checkout other apartments near by such as Santa Clara square, encasa, Ironworks, etc. They are all good apartment with good location and price, and better living conditions."
