"I don't know how I feel about this rating because 3 stars doesn't really convey accurately my experience. I would like to have given them a 4 star or maybe even 5 star on their availability of items. The certainly have more obscure things that you are just not going to find anywhere else, and for that they are invaluable. It is definitely the "go to" place for things you have never seen anywhere else. As far as their knowledge is concerned, 4 to 5 stars as well. However, for customer service and their ability to get me what I need and on my way, they are lucky to get 2 stars from me... There has been too many instances where I have gone in there only to have to wait in line as the salesperson makes no effort to acknowlefge me or let me know that someone will be right with me and at the same time spends altogether way to much time with the customer they are helping when there are people in line waiting to be helped. There is never any urgency to try to make sure everyone gets helped promptly and not made to wait sometimes upwards of 15 to 20 minutes in line to be helped. I understand good customer service, but far too often it's just a lackadaisical attitude and no initiative to get the customers in line helped and on their way. I mean 15 to 20 minutes to wait in line is absolutely absurd. I've even had a lady walk up after I had been waiting for over 12 minutes and the guy who was too busy doing nothing to help anyone in line, suddenly became available and conveniently was able to help her right away, with his cheese, siimy smile as her pretended to be such a gentleman by helping her, while disregarding that myself and another customer had been waiting over 10 minutes already..."
"This place is great. They have all the normal stuff but ... I was rebuilding a 1950s American weaving loom a couple of years ago and needed maybe a half-dozen nuts and bolts of various types. The loom was cherry with non-galvanized black bolts. Most were carriage bolts with wing nuts, some had square heads, some had only the last 1" threaded, some had thread the whole length of the bolt threaded. I was able to duplicate everything but one bolt. All were perfect matches with the '50s hardware, except for that one. That one bolt matched everything else mechanically, but was galvanized. The salesman said they could do an internet search for a non-galvanized bolt ... or I could just take the galvanized bolt and soak it in vinegar for a couple of days until the coating came off. Which I did. To add a touch of age, I heated it over the stove. That restoration is perfect. Cherry with black hardware, made in Michigan, and the wood is still perfectly straight. Can't tell the replacement bolts from the originals!"
