Casa Blanca, The Original Texas White House Laredo, TX 78041
About the Business
Casa Blanca, The Original Texas White House, located in Laredo, Texas, is a historic park with a rich history dating back to 1754. Originally established by Tomás Sánchez de la Barrera y Gallardo, captain of Laredo, the White House was constructed of caliche blocks and served as a settlement and later a mission. The land was granted to the Montemayor family in 1807 and was used as a ranchhouse until 1852. Various families occupied the house over the years, with a post office operating on the site from 1860 to 1866. In 1896, the land was purchased by John L. Wade, who established Wade City adjacent to Casa Blanca. Despite efforts to develop Wade City, it did not prosper and by 1914, its population had decreased significantly. The post office ceased operation in 1922, and by 1945, only ruins remained of Casa Blanca. Today, Casa Blanca is a non-profit institution dedicated to preserving the history of the area and relies on contributions from the community for support. Don't miss the opportunity to join the 23rd Annual San Jacinto Symposium on April 26-27 in Houston, TX, to delve into history and scholarship with fellow academics, professionals, and history enthusiasts. "This is one of the cleanest parks that I have had the privilege to visit. The lake levels fluctuate quite a bit. But overall a great place to spend a day at enjoying the outdoors with a picnic or good old fashioned cookout."
"Nice park on the border! Plenty of great food and things to do nearby. Lake and views aren’t the best, but the facilities are very nice and well kept. Restrooms and showers are very nice as well. Large playground areas are older but nice. Interested to have the casa Blanca history here as well."
"Been here a thousand times and never gets old. Feels so historic, I can imagine all that those building has seen and experienced over the years as it watches over Laredo perched on this overlook"
"I really like this state park and campground. I love the fishing lake and trails!! Laundry would be great for the campground but I get it. I will return and I would recommend to anyone"
