"THIS PRACTICE DISCRIMINATES AGAINST ADOPTIVE FAMILIES! Unfortunately, the experience I hoped for my newborn son never happened with Dr.Hanna. My husband and I started finalizing the adoption process a few weeks ago through ICPC and needed a local pediatrician (he was born in LA but we reside in IL). My sister gave us raving reviews about Dr.Hanna providing care for my niece and nephew over the last 13 yrs. so we were comforted to have such a great referral. I called Dr. Hanna's office to schedule a new patient appointment. The office was closed at the time so I left a detailed voicemail (which mentioned our adoption). After a few days of not receiving a returned call, I followed up realzing oversights and busy spurts can happen. Cathy answered the phone as I explained how important it was for us to schedule a follow up appointment as he was only 2 weeks old. She went from being jolly to sounding very apprehensive and unsure when I stated we were in the process of an adoption but have all his paperwork from our adoption agency and attorney. Cathy said " I don't know about this or if the doctor will want to deal with this. We don't know you and the doctor may not be comfortable with dealing with this until the adoption is finalized. I mean if you want I guess you can fax in paperwork for her review and we can see but I dont think so." My heart dropped, I was shocked and in disbelief that we were being discriminated against because we were adoptive parents. She then told me "well let me speak to the doctor and see if she wants to deal with this I'll give you a call back." A few minutes later she called back repeating the same thing she intially said like "yeah we don't know you or your family it would be different if we did but if you want to fax something over she could possibly look at it." I said no it's fine, if you're treating new patients this poorly then I wouldn't want him to be her patient. I then called my sister and she was outraged. She asked if I knew who I spoke to and that I should call back because obviously doctor Hanna is unaware how her office is being represented. I called the office back and asked to speak to Cathy. She got on the phone and I made her aware that I didn't appreciate how she handled the inquiry of an adoptive family becoming her new patients and even if she was unfamiliar with how things operated, it's not ok for her to dicriminate against adoptive or foster familes. Even if we were a foster family and not an adoptive family the newborn would still need care. As long as someone has the proper documentation they should consider them for becoming a new patient. At this point I'm crying somewhat as I'm speaking because adoption is already an intense process without a doctors office discriminating against having them for patients. When I said we were being discriminated against somehow Dr. Hanna arrived on the phone. I felt relieved because I wanted to make her aware of how her staff handled prospective new adoptive families. But to my surprise she agreed with everything Kathy said, she also claimed she was right there the entire time we were talking. I stated so you agreed with your receptionist saying you were uncertain about allowing our newborn to become a new patient because we are adopting and you didnt know us or our family. She then changed her story saying well no I didn't hear that she was speaking low. She apologized and said she wasn't trying to make us feel any kind of way, but wouldn't want our son as a new patient because she didn't want it starting off like this. She told me that there are actually plenty of great pediatricians in the area. Then she claimed that she's actually not accepting new patients at this time. This was very disheartening because I'm actually a HR manager on a LOA for this adoption. I care about people and have a passion for them and would never want a family to endure what we've endured from this experience. Adoptive families matter, we are real families and shouldn't be discriminated against, we should be treated with respect and fairly."
"We have been going to doctor Hanna since my son and daughter were 3 and 8 and we no love her! I had another son in 2019 and he also goes with her now. She treats the kids with kindness and treats them as her own. If the kids are sick she sees them that same day. If the office is closed and you call and leave a message she calls back right away. Highly recommend her!!"
"She is great with both my young children! Also knowledgeable and supportive of a unique congenital skin condition my youngest had. Everyone in my family appreciates her!"
"Hello! Let me start off with saying I’m not a person who usually takes time out to write a review but Dr. Hanna deserves this acknowledgment and more. A few months ago the school nurse called for me to pick my child up from school due to complaints of pain and discomfort. I didn’t think much of it at the time but because he rarely complains about anything I took him to see Dr. Hanna to be on the safe side. Without going into great detail I will say that within what seemed be minutes of his examination she correctly diagnosed him with an urgent matter and swiftly helped with the coordination of a visit to the ER. Shockingly my son ended up needing emergency surgery that SAME day. Thankfully surgery went well but I’m 100% certain that because of Dr. Hanna’s expertise and quick response, she most definitely saved him from an outcome that could have not ended well. She is truly an Angel on earth and I’m forever grateful for her service. It’s a blessing to have her as a Doctor because she is extremely knowledgeable, she cares, she educates and she advocates for her patients overall well-being. She is the best! If I could give her a thousand stars on this review I would."
"Dr. Wafaa Hanna treats her patients like her very own children. She goes above and beyond making sure any concern parents have are answered and that any issues are taken care of no questions asked. Both my children go here and I wouldn’t trust anyone else like I do with Dr. Hanna. Her staff is also professional, kind, and personable. All around great office"
