Dr. Sonya L. Thomas, MD 4230 West 26th Street, Chicago, IL 60623

"I visited Dr. Sonya Thomas’ office (new N Western location) for a preventative pap smear and received a surprise bill for a full diagnostic STD panel weeks later. At no point during my visit was any form of STD testing discussed, let alone an extensive panel. When I called her office to discuss the matter, I was told that I responded that my discharge was “normal” during the intake questions, and that they interpret the presence of ANY discharge, even when described as “normal,” as a symptom of an STD that prompts full diagnostic testing - without any disclosure to the patient. I was also told that “no discharge” is their standard for limiting any tests to preventative care. If this is truly their reasoning and not an excuse to sneak in extra tests and charges to unsuspecting patients, then the staff at Dr. Thomas’ office has an outdated and ill informed understanding of women’s health. Without insurance, I would have been charged $1,205.62 for unnecessary tests that again, without considering that their medical reasons are inaccurate, were ordered without ANY mention to me. If the legitimate need for additional diagnostic testing arose during my preventative care visit, this should have been brought to my attention. It was not. Dr. Thomas failed to explain the risks, costs, or benefits of the complete diagnostic STD panel deemed to be necessary. At best, her office is operating under deceitful billing practices. Based on the explanation given to me, it seems that they are also neglecting to discuss the full scope of their patients health, as I left my visit having been told that everything appeared to be healthy. I would not recommend this office if you are seeking transparent or expert care."

"so i gotten results from Dr. Sonya and my Thyroid is high but wont put me on meds. so if i have a miscarriage and that being the reason im sueing her for putting my unborn baby in danger."

"Well lets start with being seen in a timely manner. This has never happened. Second when I finally do get in the room she is rushing. I didn't realize I had a balance and I offered to pay some but it wasn't good enough. She wouldn't see me unless I paid half and normally I would of but times are a little tight. I also have PPO and never had a remaining balance before. In addition she lets her receptionist sit up front and eat her lunch while checking in patients How unprofessional!' I went to her when I had HMO and I researched her background. I stayed her because I hate switching doctors and I do understand running late sometimes. When she does give you her time she does seem to be a nice doctor but I'm switching this is BS. I wasted a day with my son to be turned away because of money. What kind of doctor is that?"
