"Make sure to ask the right questions. For admissions, I asked if a patient had the right to choose which level of care (IOP vs Partial Hospitalization) was appropriate according to their needs—to self-advocate, to which the coordinator on the phone replied with a resounding NO. The patient can make “recommendations” but ultimately the screening is what determines the level of care AKA they do not prioritize the patient’s preference. She said this is “especially” true if insurance is going to be paying for it. They also advertise on their website that their intensive outpatient program takes place in the evenings, which is NOT true: 9-3pm. Very downstream approach and a huge RED flag."
"i did discovery's iop and php program and it completely changed my mental health for the better. i've been to a handful of treatment programs and this one was by far the best. i was in such an awful place at the time and after finishing up the program i honestly feel like a new person. the therapists and staff always go above and beyond. they're funny, kind, and honestly make you feel safe. i highly recommend discovery to anyone struggling with mental illness. part of me was sad to leave!"
"I’m very grateful for this program. Mental health is something to be taken seriously and from day one I always felt like Discovery and the staff understood that and stand by it. My mental health and personal development benefitted greatly from attending Discovery. There were times where the things we did felt a little repetitive but I did see the benefit in revisiting things as well. I appreciated the patience and encouragement to get better. Shout out to all the staff everyone was extremely awesome and I’m gonna miss them all!"
"Our daughter received the care and treatment she needed to get better at Discovery. She did both the PHP and IOP programs. The administration is professional, but also very kind and helped us at every corner. They responded immediately to any questions or concerns we had. Her therapist was empathetic, highly skilled, and got results. It is obvious just walking in that the team at this facility has the kids’ health and safety as their top priority, they foster a very warm and safe environment. Although my kiddo was sad to leave, she was ready when it was time thanks to treatment she received here."
"I was hesitant on having my child go here because of the reviews. After talking with another facility, they helped me realize that most people only leave reviews if they had a bad experience and not a good one. This place is the only place in the Austin area that I could find that would accept my child for their age. My child was upset about going here initially and beg and pleaded to not be there. My child ended up loving it here and was sad to leave. My child did PHP and IOP at discovery. We loved that they have family sessions that helped us understand how our child felt and how we felt. My child loved his therapist, Ginger, and made plenty of friends here. My child’s regular therapist has noticed a difference since being in the program. I only gave 4 stars because I feel like I’ll notice the biggest difference when my child goes back to school (that’s where my child struggled the most) and I wasn’t the fondest of the psychiatrist. The psychiatrist prescribed 2 brand new medications at once and when I told her that per previous medical advice, I will not start my child on 2 new medications because it makes it harder to find out which medication my child is having side effects to, she ignored my email and then asked me a few weeks later why my child wasn’t taking one of the medications. She also told my child to take both medications when I had already emailed her to talk with me directly concerning medication as my child is a minor. Other than that 1 negative experience, I would recommend discovery. Hopes this helps."
