Reviews
"I took my first class at Austin School of Furniture last week (Rocking chair class with Frank Strazza) and it was a phenomenal experience. The course was just as described, and the facilities, Frank, and school staff were absolutely wonderful. I always wanted to build a rocking chair, but was anxious about the process; this class was the best way for me to quickly learn necessary skills to successfully build this wonderful piece, which I now feel I can do on my own if desired. Austin, the owner, was incredibly helpful and I can confidently say I would have not finished my chair in time without Austin's help: knowledgable, friendly, and a great teacher. I was able to use some of the school's tools, and they were all high quality tools. I was able to leave the class with a 99% complete chair, only needing to apply finish (and we were walked through the finishing process, which I am confidently completing now). 10/10 recommend, will definitely be going back. You won't regret attending a class here!"
"I just finished the timber framing class yesterday and have come away not just with the knowledge of how to build a structure, but with renewed excitement for this woodworking journey I'm on. I'm planning to take at least 3 more classes this year and am so looking forward to them. Highly recommend for anyone interested, regardless of skill or experience!"

At Austin School of Furniture, I have the pleasure of teaching in a supportive and dynamic environment, surrounded by students who are just as passionate about the art of wood carving as I am. The school's commitment to hands-on, practical training, combined with the latest tools and equipment, creates the perfect setting for learning and growth. One of the things that sets Austin School of Furniture apart is its commitment to personalized attention for each student. With perfect class sizes, I have the opportunity to work closely with each student, helping them overcome any challenges and offering guidance and support as they progress. In conclusion, I am honored to have the opportunity to share my passion for wood carving at Austin School of Furniture. Whether you are a beginner or an experienced woodworker , this school provides the perfect setting to grow and develop your skills. I wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone interested in the art of woodworking and wood carving."
"Attended Morley Lounge Chair in November ‘22. 7 days. Extremely well organized, run and taught by Austin and Philip. Patient and knowledgeable instructors. Excellent facilities (and delicious lunches) and a beautiful chair to take home. As both a life-long learner and university prof, I’d have to say that this was one of my top educational experiences ever (and I’m 65!). I feel privileged to have been able to attend."
"Before my ramble, I wanted to state that my skill level is easily novice, but Austin chose his team not only based on their talents, but their ability to teach to all skill levels. ok, review time I discovered ASFD from following Philip Morley via Instagram. Prior to attending, I only was armed with a limited knowledge of tools and woodworking from my father growing up. I do however have a life goal to be a studio furniture maker. I have some design background, and am able to quickly take the image I see in my head and transfer it to a tangible template. Knowing myself, my learning style, and my need to see progress quickly, I knew I could not just learn by myself. I need to see the technique once and I'm usually good to go. Having a teacher present to analyze and give constructive feedback is the other key ingredient needed. Until recent, I had thought about going to a community college to take woodworking classes; not being a fan of prerequisites, I abandoned that idea, hoping maybe I could apprentice with someone. Then I found Austin School of Furniture and Design. The timing was perfect, and with the ability to choose what classes I wanted to take, I felt I could start filling the gaps in my knowledge... and my tool collection :) I have taken the Measuring & Marking class with Philip Morley and the Shaker Bench class with Patrick Brennan, and am utterly impressed at the level of knowledge and experience they have, and the great part is that each instructor is highly skilled in their craft. The toughest part about taking a class at ASFD is finishing it and then choosing the next one to attend!"
