"When I say that Dr. Tony Lauretta at Texas Physical Therapy Specialists is the best physical therapist I've ever had and that he gave me back my life and my shoulder, I am not exaggerating or using hyperbole. It is the truth—one that is measurable and objective. I lost mobility in my right shoulder after two freak dislocations in October 2022. It was a complex injury because I have Tourette Syndrome. I spent 5 months in physical therapy at a completely different chain and made no active progress, despite grueling and painful sessions. I had two shoulder surgeries in March and May of 2023, and those helped a little, but I still couldn't lift my arm higher than my shoulder, and that was still with a lot of pain. A friend told me about his physical therapy at this location, so I decided to get a second opinion here. This was in July 2023. There were insurance issues and schedule issues, BUT Dr. Tony made sure that I got a consultation immediately. I'm not a lucky person, but in that moment, I felt like I won the lottery. He truly understands the importance of having a skilled physical therapist who cares about their patients. I saw Dr. Tony with my shoulder mobility at 90 degrees and still in a lot of pain. After the 30-minute consultation, in which he manipulated the scapula and all the other muscles and tendons that work together, I walked out with 106 degrees of active improvement and a reduction in pain. When I was able to lift my arm higher without the same pain, I was stunned, relieved, and, dare I say, hopeful. This is what I had been needing and wanting for the five months before this. So I spent another 6 months in physical therapy with Dr. Tony and I am so grateful for every moment there. Texas Physical Therapy Specialists became my magical kingdom. It's bizarre to say that I was excited to go to every appointment, but it's true. They make it such a positive environment; they truly care about each patient, and you never once feel like you're a number or in the way. I was making real progress, and the hope of getting my life back was being renewed. My last appointment was the last week of December 2023, making my physical therapy journey a year long. But it was really the last six months of working with Dr. Tony that made all the difference in my shoulder recovery. I finished my last appointment with 146 degrees in mobility—at least I think it was 146. To put it in visual terms, I can raise my arm over my head. My shoulder will probably never be 100% simply because that's the nature of soft tissue injuries. I blew my left shoulder in MMA years ago, and it's not 100%, but it's fully functional. My right shoulder is functional now, but the rest of the healing process is up to me. But I wouldn't even have that chance if it weren't for Dr. Tony and for Texas Physical Therapy Specialists. These are among the best physical therapists in Austin. No one wants to have to have physical therapy, but if you ever need it, this really is the place to go. These are the therapists that will help you get your body and your life back. And if you are lucky to have Dr. Tony as your therapist, then I am doing a happy dance for you. Because out of the seven physical therapists I've had in the past 10 years, he is the only one who actively listened to my goals and needs according to physical pain points and successfully met them. And I am not the exception to any rule. A lifetime of thank you's to Dr. Tony and Texas Physical Therapy Specialists."
"In August of 2022, I shattered and dislocated my right elbow. I dislocated my ulna and radius from humerus in my right elbow, and tore several ligaments as well as my tricep. Simultaneously, I chipped off a part of the head of my radial and broke my ulna 4 places. After relocating my arm, I had emergency surgery to stabilize the joint via 1 large plate and 9 screws. I had my stitches and cast removed at about 3 weeks post op with my weight bearing limit being 5 lbs. I walked in for a consultation that same week with Dr. Jonathan DelliSanti with my arm locked at a 90 degree angle. I was terrified I wouldn’t get back to my full ROM because I, at this point, hadn’t been able to drive myself anywhere or wash my own hair by myself for about a month and was feeling pretty hopeless. Jon was amazing and supportive, and had wonderful interpersonal skills. I saw him twice a week for about 9 months, and while some sessions were excruciating and demoralizing, he and his Associate PT Jordan, always left me feeling empowered and motivated to continue doing my homework. The second picture is me in a full extension while weight bearing on my right arm 18 months post operation. I was teaching a yoga class :) Jon & Jordan’s work speaks for itself! Thank you guys for everything you do If you need physical therapy in S Austin and your insurance can cover it, this is the place."
"I had a terrible experience at TexPTS. After my initial assessment by the physical therapist, I was told that my insurance had approved eight PT sessions. As this was the only communication I received around insurance and billing, and the staff at the front desk never collected payment from me when I arrived or left sessions, I assumed my insurance was covering the treatment. After my fifth session, however, the woman at the front desk told me that my insurance wasn’t covering any of my sessions and that I now owed a bill of over $1000. She was very embarrassed and told me that someone at TexPTS should have verbally explained my benefits to me before I started the treatment plan with my physical therapist, but that no one had. She then mentioned that in my initial intake paperwork, I had signed a form acknowledging the details of my insurance and what it covered. When I checked back over this paperwork, which I didn’t remember signing, I saw that there was an insurance form in the intake paperwork, but the language in it was not specific. For example, it didn’t tell me the estimated cost of each PT session, or what the total cost of my proposed treatment plan was. I’m mystified why these details were not discussed with me before I began treatment, and why no one talked to me about costs until after my fifth session. If I had been charged for treatment after my first session, I would’ve very quickly understood the high cost of sessions and made a different decision about how many sessions to book. I’ve been in communication with both Kelsey Birk, the director of the Central Bailey location, and Jamie Reese, the regional director, about my concerns, but neither of them has answered my questions about why treatment costs were not verbally communicated to me before starting treatment or why I was only given clear information about billing/costs after my fifth session. I would not recommend coming here if you want clarity and transparency around billing and insurance. As far as the clinical staff goes, they are very kind and friendly. However, you get very little face-time with your PT. Most of my time was spent doing PT exercises solo or communicating minimally with a tech. During my treatment here, my issue with my hip was not improving, but my PT didn’t seem very concerned about my lack of progress. After leaving TexPTS because of the high costs of sessions, I continued doing the PT exercises they’d prescribed, but my hip pain continued. I have since seen a different physical therapist—Dr. Bockmann at Austin Spine and Sport—who clearly diagnosed my issue and gave me effective exercises to address my hip pain in just one session. He spent the full 60 minutes of the appointment investigating the source of my pain, doing some targeted massage, and overseeing the exercises that would help alleviate my symptoms. It’s been a relief to finally get effective treatment after my very frustrating experience at TexPTS."
"I've visited this location many times, for two separate issues: persistent back pain and a knee injury. I work at a job that requires a lot of sitting and idling, and that has taken a toll on my back over the years. It got to the point where I just had to lie in bed with a heating pad on my back for hours just to be able to stand up. After discussing it with my doctor, he recommended TexPTS and I can see why he did! It's been an absolutely fantastic experience, with Tony guiding me along through my journey to strengthening my back. I was already grateful for the work Tony did, but he was willing to go the extra mile and answer the many questions I had about the process. Tony even offered good advice on what the best approach is when continuing the exercises at home after the appointments are over. I can confidently say that my back is stronger than it has been in a long time, and my pain is nonexistent. During the appointments for my back pain, I managed to also injure my knee, damaging multiple ligaments. Tony was ready to go with that too, and immediately went to work. We quickly got exercises going and I almost immediately started noticing improvements. Fast forward six weeks and my legs are stronger than when I came in. I can say with absolutely certainty that this was only possible because of Tony's (and the rest of the staff!) fantastic work and I'm very grateful. If physical therapy is something that can help you on your journey to recovery, I can't think of a better place than here for it. The staff is wonderful, everybody cares about your recovery and are very understanding about your situation. TexPTS was a fantastic experience for me and I'm glad for the experience and knowledge that will keep me healthier for years to come!"
