The Butcher Rose
About the Business
The Butcher Rose is a historic lodging institution located at 1607 Frankfort Avenue in Louisville, Kentucky. Each of our six unique rooms features crisp white sheets on luxuriously soft beds, creaking original hardwood floors, and lovingly chosen furniture and art. The bathrooms offer individual toiletries, soft white towels, and steaming hot showers. Guests can enjoy a complimentary continental breakfast served in the main kitchen.
Whether you are looking to rent the entire home for your family or host an event with friends or co-workers, The Butcher Rose welcomes you with open arms. The venue is perfect for intimate weddings, bridal party accommodations, or bridal and newlywed suites. Built in the 1790s, the home sits on a prominent hill in the historic neighborhood of Butchertown.
Originally owned by Henry Fait, who operated a saw and grist mill nearby, the house and its 800 acres were later purchased by Col. Frederick Geiger, a Revolutionary War veteran. The Butcher Rose features six bedrooms, each with its own private bathroom. Please note that all bedrooms are accessible only by a flight of stairs, and the entryway includes four steps leading to the parlor.
As a property over 200 years old, accessibility alterations would impact the historical significance of The Butcher Rose. We hope this information helps you decide if our institution is the perfect place for your getaway. If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to reach out to us.

"I’m hesitant to leave this review because this place feels like the best kept secret!! .. But I’ll be generous and share because it is so amazing. Husband and I visited for our anniversary weekend. This place may not be for everyone - not good accessibility, no valet, no room service, no front desk, it’s an old house so the floors creak - if any of that bothers you I’d recommend you go elsewhere. It’s a very help-yourself/choose-your-own adventure spot/ respect it and leave it things the way you found them place and that is what we LOVED about it!! Help yourself to all the food and snacks in the kitchen, full bar, and amazing other help yourself amenities. Who needs room service when you can sneak down to the quiet kitchen and grab food or drinks yourself! Staff is on-site if you need anything and give you space if you don’t. Since this is also a social club/coworking space there is pretty much anything you could possibly need in that kitchen. In the most wonderful way, it feels like you are visiting someone’s home, but since there are only a couple rooms it’s so quiet (at least on the weekends when people aren’t working there!) and felt like we had the whole place to ourselves even though there were a couple other guests. The natural light coming in through the windows at breakfast was magical, the carefully thought out sitting nooks, the attention to detail for each and everything here is amazing. It feels like a homey museum that I never want to leave! Great proximity to restaurants and shops too. Just generally wonderful - highly recommend this special spot for staying, if you’re local consider joining the membership and make this your home away from home (I’m so jealous!), or have the most amazing intimate wedding here!"
"We hosted an intimate wedding at the Butcher Rose and it was an absolute dream! We booked the house for the weekend and it was so beautiful and cozy. Shelby is so easy to work with and helped us coordinate the flow of the day, she worked with our vendors, and answered all our questions as they came up. The Butcher Rose will always be a special place to us, can't recommend a stay or an event there highly enough!"
"Spent a fantastic few days at the Butcher Rose. Located off a quiet side street in the Clifton area and close to everything you would want to do in Louisville. There was a music performance in the parlor during one night of my stay and it was such a great way to experience the space and mingle with locals. A super charming and classic B&B, my favorite part was sitting on the big covered upstairs porch during a rainstorm. Just a magical stay all around!"
"Charming and relaxing environment in a perfect location. Close to the waterfront and walkable to restaurants. We enjoyed evenings on the patio and watched fireworks from the upstairs veranda. Very comfortable beds, great hot water and very clean. Staff was friendly and welcomed us with great snacks, drinks and vibes. We will definitely return next time we’re in Louisville."
"Such a beautiful space and great hospitality! Kitchen and bar was well stocked. We will definitely be back and will recommend to all visiting friends and family."
