"I bought what appeared to be a clean, nice, 8 foot piece of 6x3 Walnut for about $70. When I got it home and sliced into it, however, I found a 2 inch wide crack splitting down the center, making it useless for my project. I called Fine Lumber to inquire if I could get a replacement piece. I did not ask for a refund. They told me flat out No, they don’t warranty anything. What kind of business does not stand by a totally defective product? I’ll find my lumber elsewhere."

"This place is so great! I’m a hobbyist carpenter who came from Boston to Austin for 6 days to build a trophy case for a friend. I purchased 280 board feet of walnut (6 in and 8 in widths). I called ahead of time and they sent me a picture of the wood they had in stock so I could confirm that they had plenty to pick through and choose from when I got there. They gave me a quote over the phone that was exactly what I ended up paying. The price was essentially the same as the same quantity/dimensions available at Home Depot, but the quality was much much better, plus Home Depot ships walnut to your house, so the lead time is 2 weeks, where you can pick up in stock items here same day. You also have no ability to quality control direct shipments from Home Depot to your house. Wood was relatively knot free, not a single board was warped, and there were no major gauges in any of the boards and only a few had some small splits on the ends. For this particular project I was looking to avoid the lighter walnut heart wood and I was able to pick and choose darker boards no problem at all. Staff was super friendly and helped bring the wood to our truck with a fork lift. My next project here is a back deck. I will definitely be coming back here for any lumber."
