Lutheran Hospital - Emergency Room

"I had an injury fall and up in the emergency room. After a short wait, I was taken to an ER room. The nurses were great, although Dr Welch gave me bad news informing me of a broken bone, she is an awesome Dr. She is very personable, knowledgeable and has a great sense of humor. I highly recommend the emergency room if the need arises"

"The communication between staff and myself lacked beyond reasonable time frame. I waited 45 minutes with no communication from staff after doc said I could be discharged. I then asked 3 different times to have my IV removed that took another half hour. Had I been told that the IV needed to run out I would give 5 stars. Also, machines constantly beeping that I was not hooked up too. I had to ask several times to have them shut off. When staff did respond they were pleasant. After almost 2 hours of being left hanging off and on during my stay, that does not set a good tone when a person is bleeding and doesn’t know why. Making a tense situation worse."

"I was told by my Nurse Practitioner to go straight to Lutheran ER. I got there at 4:15 and was called back to the ER at 5:30. I never got a room . I was in the hallway. I had a IV put in in the hallway. Blood went on the floor. No one cleaned it up. When I worked on Med surge 2 we were told to clean up as soon as possible. Never got a room was sent home about 8:00. I would say that they need more help. What has happened to the Hospital ☹️"

"I don’t mean to sound like a Karen and complain, because I know they are short staffed, but cmon. People were bleeding, little kids were crying in pain, and others were too sick to even talk or stand. They, and I…had to wait hours on end just to be seated in a hallway, with ZERO staff present. There were 3 rooms minimum open, and nobody got to get one. When the doctor FINALLY arrived, they kept talking to other staff about their social and personal issues. It just seemed very inappropriate, and unprofessional, especially while people are sick, and or dying and they are left unattended for hours just because staff don’t want to do their job properly, because they “had a bad day” and “want to hurry up and get this hour done” off their shift. Honestly, if you want to be a nurse, or doctor, be one with passion. You choose your job, not your patients."

"Only giving a 3 star because we could tell the staff was trying to do their best with a bad staffing day leaving them extremely short staffed. We arrived at 10 am and waited just under 1 hr in the waiting room before being taken back to internal waiting room, where we were for the extent of our visit, until 4:30 pm, rooms were all full. We were thankful treatment was at least being administered while waiting, blood draw, 1 time Dr. consultation were performed in the waiting area. CT scan was ordered and was completed in radiology and then back to the internal waiting area. Nurse came back later with discharge papers and when we pointed out no medication or fluids were administered yet as discussed with Dr, the nurse/tech said there would be a nurse on duty at 3pm that could handle administering IV fluids. The nurse did arrive at 3 as discussed and did a fantastic job of trying to get a handle on a waiting area full of patients waiting on and being treated. Fluids and nausea medication was administered and then we were released. Unfortunately no one went over the paperwork that had us being discharged at 2:30 pm, in reality we were leaving at 4:30 pm. We didn’t realize until Meijer notified us on our way home two prescriptions had been called in for treatment. Again would have been helpful for DR or nurse to go over diagnosis prior to discharge. We have always had great treatment/service at Lutheran, in fact we drive 25 minutes out of our way to go there, but we will likely think twice next time. Thank you to the Dr and nurse trying their best to treat patients in the waiting area/hallway, I could see how difficult it was to do the job not knowing exactly where patients were located without having rooms assigned to each person."
