Liberty House Lofts

"I lived here from 2009 to 2013. Overall, I had a good experience living in the building. I lived on the second floor and had a great view of the Vulcan. The roof leaked occasionally and I could hear my neighbors when they used the Whiz Palace. I shudder thinking of what they could hear from their end. I digress. When I moved out in 2013, I moved out of state to attend grad school. My roommate and I never received our deposit back, nor any documentation regarding what the money was being used for, all of which is required by law. Had I not moved out of state, I absolutely would have taken them to Small Claims Court. Since I was in grad school and didn't have extra money to dish out for an attorney to handle it, I decided I needed to let it go. Management never responded to any of our requests for the deposit back and wouldn't even produce the proper documentation showing what the deposit money was used for within the statutory time frame. I have no idea if the same people own the building, but I would caution anyone who currently rents here or is thinking about renting here to be aware of this. This was the second time I rented a place in Birmingham where this same issue occurred. Luckily, I was able to take the first company to Small Claims Court where judgment was ruled in my favor and I was able to recover my money. This is an extremely simple Landlord-Tenant law to abide by. There's really no excuse to not comply. I assume these greedy mongrels assume tenants won't follow through in holding them accountable. Since I was unable to do so, I hope this review serves as a warning to others. They should really change the name from "Liberty" to something more appropriate like "Thievery House Lofts"."
