"What a terrible place to live. Gun shots all the time, people breaking into cars. Constantly smell of weed no matter where you are. The receptionist even had a weed pen sitting at her desk one day. Then when I moved out, they charged me 1200$ for new carpet. I am a clean FREAK. They are scam artists. Maintenance was a joke. Do not bother with this place. You will regret it."

"As residents who have been here for many years, we feel so blessed to be able to reside in such an amazing community. The office and maintenance have been nothing but humble and wonderful to my family. We are able to allow our kids to play without worry, which makes living here amazing! We are able to express concern and have them be addressed in a timely matter. We just had our wonderful new roofs installed and they are perfect! I must shout out the amazing office staff. They always smile and wave when they see you, they treat you just like family. The Maintenance is top notch! They are well trained and are so respectful when you have a request. If you are looking for a beautiful home for you and your family We highly reccommend The Retreat. It Is the Best Apartment Complex in Elkhart by far!"

"I renewed my lease for a second year and I’m now giving my rating. Living here has been a great experience the office and maintenance department are top notch!! The office offers year round activities to encourage interaction with other tenants. I have looked at other apartment communities and didn’t feel right like I did with The Retreat. A huge factor for me was the snow removal and the response time to maintenance issues, both have been excellent. I enjoy being recognized by the staff on a first name basis as they walk the property and see you. Thank you Retreat!!"

The property manager G makes it her mission to make everyone feel like family and live each day with a smile. I couldn’t ask for a more pleasant experience!"

"Since the apartments came under new ownership a few years ago, the whole complex has transformed into a great community. Apartments have been completely renovated in recent years in attempts to spruce up quality of life. The managers are incredibly friendly, and they try to get everyone involved with clubhouse events like painting parties. They’re putting in new landscaping, and have plans to improve the parking lots and add a dog park eventually! If you ever have any questions, the managers are always on site, and they love meeting the dogs! I always take our dog in to visit for treats and belly rubs. When stuff breaks, the maintenance crew is always on hand. It may take them a day or two to get to your apartment, but that’s perfectly reasonable unless it’s an emergency. The Retreat uses a website to log maintenance requests and pay rent. I’ve never had any critical problems living here so far. I wish washers and dryers came included though. There’s hookups available, and also a laundry room at the clubhouse. There’s also a workout room, and an outdoor pool that is open in the summer. Overall, a great, quiet community space fit for anyone. Communication between manager and resident is outstanding, and I’d recommend this complex to everyone!"
