Courtyard by Marriott Detroit Utica

"The hotel is very dated, dark and beat up. About 8:15 this morning Housekeeping came by knocking on our door- not to clean our room - they had no cleaning cart in the entire hallway - they came to wake us up and roust us out. So, now we're awake after arriving quite late, there's a used coffee pack in the coffee machine and no new coffee packs in the room - the room obviously was poorly prepared before we arrived. So, we go to the lobby, guess what - no coffee in the lobby and no breakfast. This hotel is terrible at customer service. We complained at the front desk - no apology just an offer of the managers business card. Terrible."

"Read the recent reviews before booking. There is no whirlpool/hot tub at this property. Don’t preorder breakfast and pay for it because the chances of getting it are slim. No one at the front desk and no one at the Bistro. I did find a lady folding towels who helped me find the breakfast staff person (in the bathroom texting her boyfriend) The GM or AM of this location should be looking for a new job. Probably already is gone based on the experience…"

"I'm surprised Marriott allows this property to utilize their brand name. Upon arriving I had to switch rooms because the shower rod was falling down and the fridge didn't work. The AC seemed to be less than adequate too. Once we got settled in a new room, it was clear the WIFI didn't work or was spotty at best. The pool was closed and my son was disappointed. The room and hotel in general were questionably clean. Some sort of massive noise radiates from near by rooms - I think it's their AC units. Staff seems to mean well but doesn't really care. We could not get enough towels - they were rationing wash cloths. I inquired directly with Expedia with whom I booked the travel and both them and the property themselves basically said there was nothing that could be done to reduce the price I paid other than to reduce a future booking. There's no way this property is worth the 320 bucks I paid. This place is worth 80 a night tops - I've stayed at better La Quinta hotels. Go somewhere else."

"Not a great experience. Shower/bathroom could use a better cleaning or update altogether. Wallpaper was peeling off the wall. The light in our bathroom was burnt out and when telling the front desk about it, one lady basically laughed at us like we were nuts for asking and said there was not much she could do because maintenance wasn’t there. So less than hospitable which is what you pay for at a hotel. I will say Mary at the front desk was great. She made sure maintenance finally got us a new light or offered to move our room. How does housekeeping not notice a light is out when cleaning the bathroom? For a Marriot, I was really disappointed with the overall experience. There’s a lot of other hotels in the area, I’d go elsewhere…"

"A lot of people are probably justifiably disgruntled with their stay here. I'm not so picky, and it was alright. When we arrived at 2am, our first room smelled like someone just smoked a cigarette when we entered the room. We quickly asked for a replacement, and were given another room, which also has a slight mildewy smell, but it quickly went away when we ran the AC and air started to circulate. The staff is great. The first night a woman did what was asked to help accommodate our stay. The second night I watched another woman help some couple and then she rang me up for snacks. The staff themselves seemed like better than not employees. I saw a handful of guests using the pool over the weekend, another group the meeting room. This hotel isn't anything special. It has beds for an affordable price. Just know that, and you should be alright."
