Reviews of Polar Express
"My daughter took her 4 year old son and was very disappointed. The hot chocolate was served cold, the elf that was trying to sing had lost her voice and they tried to collect the letters from Santa when they had not even been passed out yet. Maybe other train cars were better? Long train ride with no lights or anything to look at out the windows . The North Pole was very disappointing.. Adults wearing green/red waving as train passed with a few wooden cut outs that were lighted. This could be such a wonderful experience with a little work… Animated reindeer (Lowe’s)? Animated elves working on toys? A brightly lit workshop that is decorated? We realize that volunteers may be running this but for some children it is their very first experience seeing the North Pole."
"Not at all what we had expected. We spent $100 per ticket to sit in an upgraded “first class dome” car and the electricity kept going out, so badly that they actually stopped the train and delayed the next trip to repair a wire. Upon reading other reviews it seems this is an ongoing issue which honestly upsets me even more. We took our 11 month old and he is generally extremely really well behaved but he was scared sitting in the dark for so long with no lights across from another child that screamed literally the entire trip. Once they get the power back on they delivered us each a store bought cookie and a lukewarm cup of hot chocolate (tasted like it came from a Keurig k-cup with artificial sweetener). There was zero decoration or lighting on the way to the “North Pole” but then as we approached the North Pole one of the employees came up and told us that children would have a hard time seeing the elves from our seats and that they should come downstairs. As we walked down the stairs a different employee chastised us for leaving our cabin and commanded us to get back to our seats. I was really upset by the way she spoke to us. We made it back in time to our seats which happened to be on the right side of the train to be able to see the tops of elf heads through an incredibly dirty window that didn’t look like it had been cleaned since they started these trips this year. To clarify since the website said otherwise, it is absolutely incorrect that both sides of the track see everything equally. When the train returns to the station it just goes backwards so the same side gets to see everything. Santa made it back to our car just before getting back to the station as kids were screaming and over the whole thing. He was in a hurry and the girl next to us was crying because her family didn’t get a good photo with him. The employees couldn’t figure out where the light switch was for the center row of lights so it was still very dimly lit when he came back for photos. They even came back to ask us if we had seen a light switch. We were shocked that they didn’t know how to operate the lights on the train. This was our first trip and it will also be our last. We were definitely disappointed in the value for what we paid. Thankfully our son is young enough to not remember this experience."
"This was our first experience riding the Polar Express yesterday, and I was not impressed and was disappointed. Our family consisted of 12 family members. Our car was #10 (with the amount of people we had, we were forced to book in car 10 because the rest were sold out). It was cold out, normal for this time of year, but inside the train there was no heat. We were freezing! Everyone in the car couldn't take their coats off and take pictures with their matching pajamas. What's the point!! They could have at least explained that when purchasing tickets and we could have brought blankets. Our 82 year old grandfather was shivering, and we had to give him our scarves. The inside of all the windows were fogged the whole time because of how cold it was, and you couldn't see the outside. And like everyone else said, you can not see the lights from both sides. Also, the seats are so jammed together that our knees were almost touching and I'm only 5'2". We spent a lot of money for this event. We could have spent this money in a better way. At least the lanyard ticket is a nice souvenir along with the little bell that we put up on the tree. The staff was really nice and we saw Santa inside the train and got a picture."
"North Pole Adventure on the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Train was nothing like I had imagined. Disappointing to say the least. - According to their advertising “You can see the North Pole from every seat”, NOT TRUE. We happen to pick the right side of the train to see, but shared with the children who were on the wrong side of the train. Frustrating for the children. - Volunteers were wonderful! - We sang Christmas carols, however the music overhead was distracting and didn’t go with what we were singing. - I assumed there would be Christmas lights the entire ride, there was nothing to see. Except at the North Pole (Winking Lizard) - The actual street the station is on is 27 Ridge, but there is NO SIGN displayed to indicate Ridge Rd. Was not aware of handicap parking and ended up walking down this HUGE hill with an elderly cousin. - Had a nice time visiting with family & friends but could have spent $859 for 12 tickets on something better. - Sadly NOT worth the money, there was no magic like I had imagined."
"I am writing you to tell you my experience on the North Pole Adventure. I have bought 5 tickets and hand clicked them for Car 2 in the dome. First the seats weren’t where I had selected them and my family and I were further than I would have liked apart. Secondly the train kept loosing electricity and we were mostly in the dark and barley listened to music. During this time the train got really cold and the windows fogged up to where we couldn’t see out of them no matter how much we wiped them off. Lastly the hot chocolate was sour and didn’t even taste like hot chocolate. Honestly what i had expected verses what it really was, was disappointing and I will not be back again. I really spent 500 for what? A cold train sour milk and no music and darkness the entire ride… DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY LIKE I DID…"
