"Not a campground but a retirement/living place/trailer park. Basically Larry and Penny Thompson had the vision of turning state parks in to living residence, sarcastic right. They wanted to preserve park and nature, that was their vision. Also, don't believe everything on their website, tent reservations are close not due to renovation but due to winter reservations, they prioritize winter /long stay /snow bird reservations. This is what camping has become in florida, not for fun ,not for adventure. I will highly encourage state representatives to fix the future of camping and to use tax money in parks not living residence. Save state and county parks."
"Loved this campground, great sites. Bathrooms and laundry really nice. I'm in a wheelchair and all roads paved including trails made it even better. County patrolled area made us feel safe even though it was a mostly quite place. We liked it so much went back and booked a month stay."
"We needed a place to stay in the Miami area during the holidays and were thankful to have found and stayed at Larry and Penny Thompson Memorial Park and Camground. We couldn't reserve online, but the process was fairly simple via the phone and the staff were always friendly. They mentioned that you have to be the owner of the RV/Motorhome in order to stay, which I would guess is a safety requirement. We had to show our registration card, but other than that, it was simple. We stayed three nights for a very reasonable price. The park is huge and clean and they have the camp sites in big circular "pods". There wasn't a lot of a privacy between lots, but there was enough space between them. Residents can book for up to 6 months, so it does seem some people are there for longer terms while others are come and go. The facilities looked clean as well, and the location is great. We visited the Miami Zoo, which is the best Zoo I think I've been to with a lot of animals and large areas for them. The location also isn't bad if you want to visit the Everglades, downtown Miami or the beaches, or even head down to the keys. Excellent value and we would definitely recommend and stay again! Thanks everyone!"
"Beautiful, peaceful and quiet! I walked 3 miles without realizing it because I was just enjoying nature. There are so many different types of birds there and I saw the largest raccoons I've ever seen before!"
"Not really happy with this location. We.have been camping for years, and never have we been to a camp ground that closed bath houses at night. No bathroom facilities available from 10 pm until 6 am, and the rangers are not friendly. Pool was supposed to be open Wednesday to Sunday 10 am until 5 pm. We were there on a Wednesday & Thursday and those days the pool was closed. Front office staff was GREAT. Very kind and friendly. Lots of long term folks. Good place to stop on the way to the keys, but I would probably just drive straight."
