"I highly recommend this store for a personal touch and advice from people who care. The family owners have been doing this for decades and will help you personally and give you advice. Starting out, you don't know what gear to buy, what's essential, what's optional. You don't know where to go or what to do. You need a boost. These people will help! Don't be fooled by big box stores with a larger footprint. Smaller stores like this don't stock junk. They can't afford to. Avoid decision fatigue and just get the right gear from the right people. I bought most of my essential gear here when planning a hike on the Appalachian Trail. The owners walked me through the considerations and gave me confidence to try it. I had a blast and started a hiking hobby that I still enjoy. On a practical note, I value stores like this. They have helped me advance myself, so I want them to stay in business. So here's my practical request. When buying your gear, try to buy a few big ticket items in person. (Eg backpack, shoes, sleeping bag, tent). The price difference is negligible compared to online. (Also, do you really want to save a couple of bucks in the wilderness, when the stakes are higher, doing a hobby that is already cheap?) Then, while you're at the store, chat with the people. Ask for advice and opinions. Life will surprise you if you let people into it."

"This store is better than REI. Wow!!! We were looking for new hiking shoes and the store had an excellent selection of different brands and styles. Sheila was very knowledgeable and patient with us to answer all our questions. She explained the pros/cons of each hiking shoe in terms of the fit, comfort, arch support, and whether it was waterproof. We also purchased hiking socks, pants, and other clothing. Environeers will be our main go-to store for hiking shoes and outdoor apparel going forward. Go to Environeers first!"
