"Uses a lighter weight motor because the overall weight is lessened by not having shifters, derailleurs and freewheels. As the weight is decreased, the power needs are reduced. As the power needs are reduced, the smaller motor and battery can be used. This further reduces the weight. How is it possible to ride with no low gear ? Simple; the torque sensing crank is, for all intents and purposes, a three speed automatic transmission. If I want to easily ride up a steep hill to save my 68 year old knees, and I do not have a low gear, I use more battery power and pedal lightly. I have ridden heavy e-bikes for 2000 miles and they were all right, but I could not lift them. People call my bike store looking for high speeds and powerful batteries. Light weight and lower power is not the way most people assume electric bikes should be, but the addiction to high power and high speed is part of what is killing our environment. Bicycles are supposed to be different than that!"

"Could not be more satisfied with my Stoic. Purchased late last Summer and put 300 miles on it before I had to put away for the winter. Battery life , range and ease of gear shifting exceeded my expectations. So far a couple of 40 mile rides with plenty of battery left. Built in lights, bell and speedometer/trip meter a plus.
