Meadow East Apartments - Potsdam Apartment Rental

"Bryan, kindly return our security deposit because you don't have the right to seize it after we left your appointment in a better condition than we met it; remember the pictures of before we moved in and after are there on my phone. My question is, does it mean that there is no one to speak for the international students for what they are going through at the hands of Bryan Wolofsky in Potsdam? I wish I knew how to contact the Mayor or the appropriate authority, but even if I don't, I believe that one day they will see this message."

"I was going to let my experience with Meadow East go, but I read a current review and apparently, nothing has changed with the process of returning security deposits. I had an 11 month lease for my last year at Clarkson. The apartment itself was kind of grungy, and the heat went out in the winter or it would go over 92 degrees with no way to control it. I moved out May 26th…for a lease that ended May 31st, no one was in the office, so I mailed the keys back with a note providing the address to send my security deposit to and I texted the manager’s phone # that this is what I would do. The process that ensued to get my security deposit back was unbelievable. After a month, on July 1, 2023, I sent an email to the owner, Bryan Wolofsky checking on the status. His reply, “I don’t remember you; can you send me a copy of your lease and tell me when you paid your security deposit”. WHAT??? OK. I send him the signed lease and a copy of my cancelled check on July 2nd. Now he has to check that I actually paid rent every month- but the check should go out by the end of the week. I followed up by email on 7/10 but got no response. (at this point I’m including Tammy the property manager in my emails). My 7/17 email included a bank print out showing all 11 months of rent paid from my checking account. Now he’s asking, “Did you pay your Electric bill?, Tammy, did he leave the place in good condition?” He also stated he was now waiting for the July water bill and as soon as he received that, THEN he would send my security deposit (within the week). Tammy did respond that the apartment was left VERY clean and she agreed that I should get all my deposit back. Mind you my lease said nothing about paying for water, but I’ve heard of his attempts to get tenants to pay for water. I respond by highlighting Item #6 in my lease that says water is provided by the landlord. By 8/1 I email to check AGAIN on the status….2 full months after moving out. I have told him I am relocating and NEED it back for a new place. Also, my lawyer suggested I file a report with Attorney General, because it is UNLAWFUL to withhold security without reason. Here’s the kicker….now he is out of checks and has to wait for a new batch to come in next week…..AND he asks again when I paid my security because he has no record of it!! He then suggested that the “right and moral thing to do” would be to pay the $585.39 for water. How he arrived at that amount I have NO idea, I do not believe each apartment has a water meter, and I was only there during the week for classes (no dishwasher or clothes washer). I told him that I would be in Potsdam the next day and he could either get a bank check, a postal money order, VENMO, ApplePay or give me cash, but I would go to the office and pick up my security deposit. When I got to the office the next day….he pulled out a checkbook and wrote me a check. Hmm…. weird how he suddenly had checks. I’m not sure if he just expects people to give up on getting the deposits back, but It’s bad business to make people jump through hoops like I had to. Keep better records!! It’s not that hard to track tenant payments. I must say Tammy was very helpful and recommended continually that I get my security returned. Bryan seems quite eccentric and should probably leave the business end to Tammy!"

"I just recently moved to Potsdam and I must admit the management team has been nothing less than stellar the owner Brian very respectful easy to talk to and put me in contact with the property manager whose name is Tammy. I must admit the reviews are nothing like what I've experienced myself the property manager Tammy went above and beyond to accommodate my every need and saw to it that I had a place and was able to move in fast and effectively the maintenance staff is impeccable very easy to talk to and professional from the owner to the property manager to the if you are looking for a nice affordable place I would highly recommend moving to Meadow East Apartments in Potsdam,NY!"

"Has been a wonderful experience so far. Nice, modernized apartments close to school, lots of green space, very social. Tammy the property manger is very good at solving any kind of your problem related to housing. She will try to solve any kind maintenance problem as quick as possible. Now i would like to say few lines regarding the property owner my dear friend Bryan. Bryan the owner of this property is the gem of a person. He is very friendly and understand your problem. During my entire stay at Meadow east he was there for me all the time. I miss meadow east. Overall I can Great team of people working close by. Thank you my dear friend Bryan and Tammy for making my stay wonderful at Meadow east."

"I would not advise renting here. You can look up the owner in North Country now, his name is Bryan Wolofsky. There are several articles written on him. Basically, he started harassing all of his tenants for a water bill that wasn't in the lease. He'd send a few emails to all of the tenants every month about it, that got progressively more unhinged sounding (numerous grammatical errors, all caps, and lots of swearing). He also would not give us our security deposit back after saying we'd get it back and has ignored all emails sent afterwards. The buildings are also very dilapidated and he will not reinvest into the apartments."
