"You’re awesome !!!"
"We serve a big and wonderful God and He seems to always place special people in your lives when you need them most... and Dr. Pope is one of those people. Our son was diagnosed with a Stage IV Wilms Tumor on New Year’s Eve 2019. Having already lost a child previously, we felt like we were living every parent’s next worst nightmare. We were absolutely overwhelmed, scared, and desperate to do everything in our power to give our son the best chance for survival. Given his diagnosis, we were almost certain that we would have to travel out of state (to St. Jude’s, CHoP, or Dana-Farber) to receive the best care. But enter Dr. Pope and the Levine Children’s Solid Tumor team. Because of this incredible group of people, we were able to get our son the treatment he needed without having to travel hours away from home and/or out-of-state. Now that we’re nearing the end of his treatment regimen, I cannot tell you how grateful we are that he was able to receive such excellent care so close to home. Being a medical professional myself, I initially felt so much pressure to do as much research on my own to find him the best treatment regimens and best doctors possible. But within 5 minutes of meeting Dr. Pope, that burden and weight was immediately vanquished... so much so that my wife looked at me after our consultation appointment with her and said “I feel like I finally have my husband back again”. Dr. Pope has been blessed with a truly special gift... her bedside manner and ability to bring calmness and positivity to the most difficult of circumstances, while also being able to convey confidence and competence in her treatment recommendations and decision making is second-to-none. And she is able to do this while also being transparent and a straight-shooter, so that we always felt like we were thorougly informed about our son’s treatment progress and nothing was ever vague or “sugar-coated”. She has been a beacon of light through the continuous waves of uncertainty throughout this past year, a fierce advocate and cheerleader for our son, a patient and understanding voice of reason for both myself and my wife, and an absolute blessing from God. You will always have a special place in our hearts and our family, Dr. Pope. We hope that you keep doing this for decades to come so that more families have the opportunity to experience what every medical professional should aspire to be. To you, the other doctors of the Levine Children’s Oncology team, all of the nurses, social workers, and other staff of the Solid Tumor team and LCH-11... thank you for taking such amazing care of our son and our family through the most difficult season of our young family’s story thus far."
