"Where to start… we moved back to NC from NYC and decided to live here for a year or two while looking for a house. That was one of the biggest mistakes we could have made. We had our first child while living here and since his birth we have had at least 3 fire alarms that required evacuation. I haven’t had that happen since living in a college dorm. From reading other reviews it seems our building is luckier than others, but the fact that it is happening in multiple buildings on property should say it all. During the fall we started having black hornets enter into our apartment (with a new born!). They sent out terminix to see where the hornets were coming from but never addressed the problem of an open crack in the door that was allowing the hornets to get into the apartment in the first place. After that, we started having packages stolen. It was clearly someone who either lived on the premises or worked at the apartment complex because it would happen every single time we had a package that was accidentally delivered and sat overnight (someone was clearly looking out and watching packages like this). When calling the office to see if there was some sort of solution or make them aware of the situation they did absolutely nothing. It took us calling multiple times and demanding an email be sent out to other residents to make them aware of the situation before an email was sent. And when the email was finally sent, it made us even more upset because it did not state what was actually happening, instead it had a blanket statement of increase in crime in the area. When we asked for a solution, their response was for us to purchase a ring camera for our apartment. They have cameras posted at the trash cans but refuse to put cameras in the hallways to keep their resident’s belongings and selfs safe. Multiple ring cameras have been installed by neighbors so clearly it was an issue. We had all of our Christmas packages delivered to a friends apartment in the area because that complex actually has cameras up and even though some of our packages sat there for days (this person works in Asheville but commutes from another house elsewhere in NC) we had zero packages stolen (by the way, that complex has the same amenities, is closer to downtown, and the same square footage apartments for less monthly rent). One of the reasons we moved into this apartment complex was because they had an electric charger for our car. We ended up not using it because the charger on the premises cost equally as much as gas. We also tried to come up with a solution to this problem with the front office, they also chose to not come up with a reasonable solution again. There are multiple electric cars on property with only one charger and when we asked if they could look into getting an updated charger there was no response until we physically went into the office to talk about it. After that, we were told that some of the other residents with electric cars either go across the street to the outlets to charge or park their car in the Ingles lot to charge it. That was the only solution given to us. Now if all of this wasn’t enough reason to not live here, we just moved out and received our moving out statement. After living there for one single year they stated they had to replace the entire carpet. We had one spill on the carpet which was coffee in the second bedroom (which we fully acknowledge) but that could have easily been cleaned with carpet cleaner. We asked for pictures and the pictures they sent were of that exact coffee spill and then picture of where our furniture sat on the carpet? So I guess we were supposed to live with no bed, dressers, or night stands? They stated they pull the carpet back after every resident (and after finally reading other reviews on here) I would not expect to get your deposit back no matter what cleaning you do."
"Overall, I have enjoyed my time at Asheville Exchange. Maintenance is rather prompt as well. Joseph Jacobs in particular is a quick and personable maintenance man."
"Fire alarms go off in building 110 more than once a month. I’m writing this while holding my 3 month old while she endures her 5th fire alarm here. There used to be a short in the building, and the fire alarms would go off even more than they do now. I’ve experienced them four times in the middle of the night starting at 2:30 AM- That was fixed so this seems to be people actually setting it off. The fire alarms have been a problem since I’ve lived here- one of the first things I bought for my baby was ear protection, knowing she’d have to go through this. You can’t even use the oven or an air fryer without setting it off in your own apartment. Ceilings creak if anyone lives above you. You’ll hear them walk around and even get up to use the bathroom in the middle of the night. Garbage disposal will shake the whole ceiling if they run it. They cabinets don’t have soft close hinges so you’ll hear your neighbor cooking and definitely hear them cleaning.Beyond that, I can hear when people go up and down the stairs. You can hear all action in the hallways from your bedroom. The people who live here are disrespectful to the shared spaces. There’s even a man who camps by the dog poop bin and smokes cigarettes- throws his beers and sodas in there and the bin fills up very quickly and overflows on Sundays. There’s cigarette butt everywhere around the buildings. And sometimes the no smoking signs are completely completely ignored. Wonderful when it’s nice weather outside and you can open the awesome French doors for about 15 mins before someone’s cigarette smoke gets inside your house. Neighbors will wash their cars in the parking lot right next to everyone’s cars and not use the designated car wash station. And thats probably because one family washes all 3 of their cars on The weekend and hogs the area. Lots of dogs who are unfriendly here- some borderline dangerous. Others bark loudly in the hallways at other dogs or even humans and lots of neighbors who let their dogs bark from their porch or let them pee on your patio. Lots of kids left unattended outside throwing objects- one that has personally hit me while getting out of my car. Staff is nice- maintenance is amazing. But the building and other residents are horrible and make living here torture"
"The Asheville Exchange is a beautiful, clean, and peaceful community. The entire property is managed very well. The amenities available to residents are great: 2 kayaks, 2 bikes, pool, fitness room, tanning bed, pet spa, etc. My apartment unit is spacious with high ceilings and it is very updated and clean. I personally love the ceiling fans too! My unit is on the 3rd floor and has a nice view. Overall, it is a wonderful place to live!"
"Asheville Exchange has great attention from the office. One time when our air conditioner broke, they had Josh (or Daniel, can't remember) come out in the pouring rain to check it out. He went back and forth up and down from our 3rd floor apartment again in the rain. When it couldn't be fixed immediately, they brought a portable air conditioner unit. The staff is incredibly friendly, and they make an effort to host fun and different events throughout the seasons. They are attentive to the property and their tenants. It's also a great location especially if you don't have a car. If you don't necessarily need to go to downtown Asheville all the time (since it is further south towards the airport), there is a grocery store right next door, restaurants, the outlet mall, and other shops in walking distance between two stoplights. There's also a bus stop at the bottom of the hill outside the apartment complex's exit only gate. The apartment complex is gated and has great amenities. There is a pool with multiple options for relaxing and sunning. There's also a workout room and a tanning bed (I haven't tried that out though). There's also two kayaks and two bikes that you can take out on adventures. I am very pleased with Asheville Exchange as it is my first time living in the City of Asheville and my roommate came from a much less attentive and manicured apartment complex."
