Helpful Hearts Community Closet, Inc.
About the Business
Helpful Hearts Community Closet, Inc. is a non-profit charitable organization located at 12 Geneva Street in Lyons, New York. Our mission is to be a valuable resource for individuals and families in need by providing essential items to improve their quality of life. Founded in May 2016 by Carolyn Cook, we are run by volunteers with helpful hearts.
We offer a variety of services, including free back-to-school supplies, clothing, household items, furniture, shoes, books, toys, diapers, food, Easter baskets, Christmas gifts, and resources for anything we cannot provide. In addition to our monthly public giveaways, we also have a thrift store and food pantry at our location on Geneva Street.
In 2023, we are expanding our services to include a soup kitchen and furniture offerings at a new location on Clyde Road. We are accepting monetary donations and volunteers to help with painting, cleaning, flooring, and moving our thrift store and food pantry. Donations are tax-deductible and can be dropped off at our location during business hours or at our donation shed at the Lyons Community Center.
We are grateful for the support of our volunteers, supporters, and donors, including local businesses, organizations, foundations, and helpful individuals. Together, we are making a positive impact in the community and helping those in need.

"This is such a wonderful place. The lady who runs it is absolutely amazing. Her love for her community is heartwarming. They help so many people every day."
"I love this place. They are very friendly and help out the community. They have food baskets and free clothes as well as a whole thrift shop. Check them out."
"Such a shame I've had to go back and completely disregard the first review left for this business. I went as far as to label this place my current "favorite" place to find new and trendy apparel. But during my last visit here, I was approached by staff, a very rude and unprofessional lady who I believe is the boss. I literally had a cart full of items and still looking, unknowingly, very close to closing time. Right from the start, she approached me with a confrontational "What are you doing?! You're making a mess and we're about to close!" The only mess I contributed to, was the unorganized pile of clothing in my cart. One side had a pretty high stack of items I wanted to definitely purchase. I immediately asked what she meant by that comment and she then started going through a long rack of clothing I had yet to even go through, picking out items that were not on their proper hangers and yanking items that were out of place to which, she was very mistakingly blaming me for. I suddenly felt very child-like, the way I was being scolded and blamed for things I did not take part of. I was soon very embarrassed and taken aback by her rudeness. At the time, I was a frequent regular customer and regularly conversated with this woman about the business and how things were going. After running the figures, I had spent over $400 there in two months! That tends to be a lot when shopping at secondhand/thrift stores. I ended up walking away, leaving all of my items in the cart out of shock and embarrassment. To top it all off, one of her other employees, a grown man, followed me out of the store cussing and waving his hands at me and ended it with a loud "And dont come back B****!" I still become speechless at times when I replay this horrible trip in my memory. I have yet to encounter anything like it, at ANY other business I've ever supported at that level. Unprofessional, unstable, rude, immature, and flat out nastiness is how I now have to describe management and staff here."
"I went in to see if I could get a few pair of pants cheap for my 12 yr old daughter. The lady allowed me that and a few shirts for free. Thank you truly!!"
