"They charged my 85 y/o father $64 for a refraction (exam for an eyeglass prescription) when we absolutely were not there for that reason. We were there for an exam 2 years post cataract surgery for possible laser treatment! Called multiple times to resolve issue but can only leave a message and then they never return the call."
"I would not recommend this office to anyone unless maybe you were already under the care of a Duke provider and you had a very serious eye condition. This was the the most worthless medical appointment I have been to in a very long time. I waited months to get it and they had my insurance in advance. I arrive and sit in one waiting room, then taken back to an exam room, it wasn't really explained what the process would be and after the initial exam done not by the provider I was moved to another waiting room. I was then shuttled to a different room, the provider rushed through a very brief exam. Dr Jill Koury did not have a friendly bedside manner at all, rushed through everything, never even let me explain my issue that I had been having, rushed me out the door and handed me a piece of paper like it's 1992 for glasses. Did not explain anything. I already have glasses. I have never felt like I have wasted more time at a provider's office than I did during my exam. I then received a bill for $450!!!! for a basic eye exam. I now need to wait for a new year to find another provider who will actually let me explain what issue I am having and not be rushed out the door after subpar care. I would not go to this office or rely on Dr Koury for any kind of decent care. I honestly think she saw I was not a possible surgical patient and could not make her any money. Also, apparently if they write you an order for glasses it's a separate charge. It was approximately $85 for the provider to scribble a few numbers on a sheet of paper - when I already had glasses and didn't need a prescription! HUGE waste of time & money and effort for awful care."
"While I found the opthologist to be a skilled professional...staff were severely lacking in concern for patients well being. When I sustained a severe chemical burn to my eye...and was transported to Duke Eye Center in Raleigh by RPD because I could not see and was in severe pain...Duke Eye Center staff were oblivious to the idea of triage...insisting to spend over 20 mins in registration. I sought emergency care elsewhere."
"The appointment took 2 hours. They told me to keep my current prescription but the prescription wasn't sent to the pharmacy. I have to wait for a call back from the doctor. The new eye glass prescription was not uploaded to my chart, so I would have to drive there or get it in the mail - telling me on the phone would be easier. Finally, the issue was myopia. They have a myopia clinic, and now I'm going to have to wait 2 more months to see someone else there. Very inefficient and expensive."
"This rating is meant to be for the front desk assistant who proceeded to walk outside to the front to tell me I was parked in an EMS zone. She THREATENED me by saying she would call security and have my car TOWED, after I explained to her that I was there to PICK UP my friend who is a) handicapped and b) uses an oxygen tank and I was not about to park in the parking lot just to pick him up. After I moved from the spot, I noticed other cars parking in the exact same spot, but SHE DIDN'T COME OUT & SAY ANYTHING TO THEM!!! I wasn't parking there, btw. I was there for less than 10 min. She could've handled the situation more professionally but instead chose to be hostile. She needs to be FIRED for being Rude, Belligerent and TOTALLY UNPROFESSIONAL. Her attitude and threats were inexcusable. She gets Zero stars. By the way, I pulled up right next to the sign out front included in this picture. Tell me what I did wrong??!"
