"Horrible. Literally do not care nor know the law. My attorney never showed up to my 1st court date. No communication with the court house or replacement inference to representing me and my family in an illegal eviction. Judge didn’t even believe me when I told him I had legal aid representing me. Had to go through hoops to verify that they were indeed but didn’t show up. Court date got postponed. I was illegally evicted out of my home due to filing a restraining order on my x after he physically harmed me. I pressed charges on him. Judge granted me full possession of our home due to the restraining order until further notice. My x went to landlord. Told landlord in text to have me removed from the home because I had a restraining order on him so the he could come home. Landlord replied to him stating he had no problem removing me from the premises. it was screen shot to me from the x in text to leave. Landlord illegally evicted me, lied under oath and said I didn’t live there. My Attorney also didn’t know there was a state statue law protecting me under domestic violence in reference to being discriminated against for the restraining order. She was only able to appeal my case and nothing further. The man was a retired former county employee who had sonority over me. He won in court even though I’m protected under the state statue law. Davie County, NC violated my rights and legal aid neglected me. Me and my 3 kids were illegally evicted from our home with an eviction on my record even though I owed no money. I was denied multiple times a home and put an application fee because of eviction. I was also denied low income housing because of the eviction. I was also denied to vote at my voting destination. Landlord was working the poles. I had to call county to vote and arrange for me to vote. Where my vote probably didn’t count because of the “conflict of interest”. My information was tampered with by this landlord / former retired county employee. Me and my family were forced to move to a home twice as much as my rent was before and 30 minutes further from my job. No one would rent to me with an eviction on my record nor with 3 children. Causing us to live in emotional distress in discrimination to being a victim of domestic violence. Legal aid of nc did nothing for me. I was told after finding a new place that legal aid would no longer be able to represent me because I moved?? It was a small claimed matter they don’t handle. Same county but moved from the home I was Originally evicted from. The appeal had aloud me to stay till we went back to court. I searched for 6+ till I found something. Mathew Fox with legal aid is stating they couldn’t reach me but I have no documentation stating that. This resource shouldn’t even be funded because it’s literally worthless. These people are riding the paycheck. Mathew Fox with Legal Aid Of Winston Salem is inconsiderate, careless supervisor. Not even a recommendation to an attorney who could help me since legal aid can’t. Good luck some attorneys are good but the ones running this are careless to the people of the community using these services especially individuals with small children. Leaving a single mother and her children on the streets and an eviction on my credit report when I owe nothing. YOU ARE THE PROBLEM! You legal aid of NC are suppose to protect us. I guess it’s because I’m a young white single Hispanic mother on welfare. My rights don’t matter. Especially when being a born American citizen. I have no right to vote in the county or designated location for my address. Not only do I not have rights I don’t even have my voting rights? And you’re telling me your services can’t do nothing for me? Refer me to the proper channel I can seek legal advise for? A complaint to the state district attorney’s office and business bureau will hopefully shed some light on this situation."
"They make no effort to help low income clients if you need help try everything you can to work it out on your own without calling these people"
"Very informative and helpful office. They provided detailed information for my situation. Wait time is long and that’s expected but stay on hold no matter what."
"Called and remained on hold waiting for a representative for 54 mins. Finally a recording says no one is available please try again later and disconnects. Tried again next day exact same result."
"December 20, 2019 around 845am, I faxed important documents which were requested by Patrick who also works with Legal Aid of NC. I received a call from Jim no longer than than a couple hours of faxing my documents. He explained what to do next, etc. ,I was quite happy with the professional response and the immediate feedback. Jim took his time explaining what the letter meant, and how I should go about to responding to it. He was terrific! Not only professional, but kind and caring. He took his time with me. That goes a long way. Thanks Jim!"
