Swede’s Cafe 116 West Union Street, Morganton, NC 28655

"First time there. We give the waitress a 10+ same as we'd give a young lady with the tattoos on her arms that works in the kitchen. Both very sweet and easy going. We felt at home with around those two (only) The restaurant was one of the cleanest we've ever seen. The other young ladies put off a I'm better than you vibe while trying to act nice. The food was barely warm and this includes the coffee. We both love a good scone and got a couple to take home with us. Big mistake. They were horrible! We could taste baking soda in some spots. Didn't eat them all. Threw a lot in the trash. I'm sorry to say we won't be back. The very friendly blonde waitress and the fact the place was clean including the bathroom is why we give it a 3 stars. If we could honestly rate the food it would be a 0. No need to contact us to try and get us to come back. Even the offer of a refund or a free meal couldn't lure us back to eat there."

"The idea of this place is cute… the general store downstairs and then the coffee shop with food upstairs. But wow was this place disappointing. When we first walked up to the hostess and told her we had 7 in our party her response was “Well I guess I’m going to just go cry on my next break”. We were seated and ordered coffees and water. The latte we were given was ice cold ( it was supposed to be hot and was given to us in a mug but still ice cold ). We asked for it to be remade and it came back literally half full. We canceled the drink order and just waited for the food. They were out of French toast, they gave us a tablespoon of hot sauce for the whole table, never gave us napkins and the price vs quantity of food was very disappointing. It was just a very disappointing experience. I hope in the future they are able to improve in their customer service and quality of their food."

"We ate lunch here while walking around Morganton. The pulled pork sandwich and Reuben were very very good. The serving sizes were more than enough. Prices were also reasonable. The upstairs area is cozy and filled with people of all ages. Drip coffee was better than average for a lunch café and the rye bread used is the best I have had. I recommend for a tasty local lunch!"

"The food was amazing and you can't beat the price! I particularly like the French toast. The hot chocolate was delicious as well. Great little location above a little shop. The table was a little sticky, but when syrup is involved, that is to be expected ."

"Great little cafe upstairs to a gift shop. Food was good and staff was pleasant. We ordered the Harveys Melt and Beth's French Toast Stack, both were very good! The bathrooms are very clean too!"
