Kenza Hair Braiding

"Pros: The twists were neat and I’ve gotten several compliments. Also they are affordable for NYC. Cons: They confirmed in advance that they had the color I wanted, but they didn’t so I had to run to buy hair down the street. They used way too much petroleum jelly. I had some small chunks of it in my hair when I left. Also I had to ask multiple times for them not to add extra hair to make it fuller at the bottom. Later in the visit I asked if she was still adding hair and she and everyone else emphatically said that she wasn’t. After I said ok I saw with my own eyes that she put down the hair she was adding to that twist. I showed a photo of the size and fullness I wanted multiple times but the twists came out too small and not enough volume. The style seat website was a base price, but the Kenza hair braiding website doesn’t clarify how the pricing structure works. I was charged more because my twists were “small,” even though I didn’t even want them that size. They are very tight unless you ask multiple times to be gentler. Even with my edges I had to repeat myself. Three days later and I’m still having trouble finding a comfortable sleeping position because of the tightness. That’s not normal!"

"This was my first time at the shop and first time getting my hair done by the Aubties and let me tell you I had a great experience. This is not your typical African Hair Braiding salon, it’s not back with a bunch of people at My all. The shop is very clean. my stylist was Benta (hope I spelled that right) but I showed her a picture of what I wanted and she gave me just that. She didn’t braid tight at all. I did call Kenza in advance so I did know the price before hand and I told her what time I wanted to come. kenza and her girls was very professional. I really can’t wait to come back here to get my hair done. Even if you feel insecure of how your natural hair looks, this is the best place to come because it’s an intimate environment."

"Kenza and the other women who work here are amazing at what they do! My knotless braids in the first photo are almost THREE MONTHS old (the second photo is when they were just done obviously) and I took them out a few days later with not a single tangle in my hair. They are meticulous and take care of your natural hair which is extremely important to me because I have been growing mine for a few years now, with Kenza and her team’s help with protective styles. I would say definitely call for an appointment because it gets busy, but I’ve had a lot of success with same day bookings!"
