Reviews
"The temaki is a cool hand roll that almost feels like a mini taco! Got the signature set (my fave was the salmon) but I would say it’s not filling enough just to get that. So we also got appetizer (the furikake fries were good and the mayo is worth!) and the dessert. The sesame miso chocolate chip cookies were divine! Overall, it is pricey but I thought it was worth it."
"A cool and fun spot for “more modern take on sushi”. Like a sushi taco! We ordered shishito peppers, spicy bamboo shoots and ocean trout sashimi. We selected two sets to try and loved the flavours. It was a bit messy and takes a bit of time to “unwrap” each one which is very different from traditional chopstick use. But the fish was fresh and everything was flavourful. Service was attentive for this small and intimate spot."
"We ordered 2 mocktail, 2 sets of "create your own set of 5" temaki and 3 appetizers to share. The total is $215 (not including the tip). It's definitely on the more expensive side for what you are getting, I don't think we will come back but it's worth a try. THE APPETIZER: Nothing really has blown us away...Bit of a waste to order the tempera, it's literally 2 small pieces of calamari and 4 pieces of veggies in fried dough, it's on the oily side (comparing to the tempera we had in Japan) and just a filler that's a waste of money and your stomach space. CREATE YOUR OWN SET: We bypassed all of the "generic" temaki and hand picked all the "speciality" ones like Uni, truffle, crab etc - and that adds to $68 per set of 5 (mandatory selection of 5). Was it good? Yes. Was it worth the price? No. THE AMBIEN AND THE SERVICE: It's communal table with bar stool style, although you are sitting in front of the "chef", you cannot really see their work table and how they make your food. The service was okay, not much service per se, it's just server bringing over the dishes and that's it."
"The food wasn't bad. I had the signature set. The first item was bland, but the rest were okay. I ordered a fried oyster temaki, which was my favorite overall. The service was utterly lacking. We were seated for a full 15 minutes without any server coming to take our order. A server came by to refill our waters by reaching across our hands to get to the water cups on our opposite side instead of just refilling from that side, so that was interesting... I had to flag down a server twice to make an order, and throughout our meal, no one had checked on us about our meal. Overall, it's okay. I wouldn't say I don't recommend, but I wouldn't recommend to my friends."
"Jakob (our server) did a phenomenal job last night! And most importantly, dishes we had were delicious, fresh, and crispy. I would highly recommend sitting at the bar if possible. Everyone came to check on us pretty frequently (refilling water, ask if everything is okay). Chief also made rolls at our pace. We were ordering a lot, to be honest, but we didn't feel pressure to leave early after we finished our last dish. Would definitely visit again with other friends."
