"I will start by saying some positive things about this location. And I was slightly town between a 2 and 3 star review but decided to give 3 from the positives. It is a very secure building which is nice for being on a Main Street. Once you are in the building there is no concern with anyone off the street getting access that shouldn’t have it. So you always feel very safe. It’s so nice being close to everything in downtown Norfolk too. You are 3 minutes from downtown and 3 minutes from Ghent. So you have quick access to everything/ everyone that is near you. The overall look of the units is very industrial and if that is a vibe you are going for it’s on point. There are also big windows which helps let in a lot of light during the day. The main negative issue for me is that the noise issues in this building are a really rough experience. From the way that the walls have been constructed to having concrete floors, it allows a ton of sound to carry through from unit to unit. In all honesty there have been several days where I have put headphones on to cut out the excessive noise from the people next to our unit so that I could feel alone in my home. This is also not due to other tenets being too loud, but just them going about their day/evening and the sound just carrying through. The issue with noise has definitely affected my desire to host people in my home because it really is a bummer when you are sitting in the living room and trying to ignore the conversation that’s taking place next door or the sound of plates being set for your neighbors dinner. It really is a cool building to live in that has some nice benefits to it. Everyone has a different level of tolerance for noise and for me personally it has had an impact on the experience of living at fort tar. Management for the building had swapped when i moved in due to a change in ownership. The property management team has been very solid. They are quick to respond and have done their best to communicate clearly with things like ongoing maintenance that might come up. Overall I have had a very good experience with them."
