North 38 Apartments

"My first week here was great! Can’t say a lot of positives occurred after that however. We have put in multiple maintenance requests to fix our wifi which has essentially been out all semester. We have had to resort to hotspots and even driving to the Sheetz to just do homework. We have been told time and again someone would be coming however the only time we actually had someone come into the apartment they handed us a piece of paper to reach out to the provider ourselves. We were told by them that north 38 does not even have a valid plan with them anymore. Since then we have contacted the office multiple times and have only now in late November been offered a solution, our neighbors wifi. Whose conveniently is also not working. I went ahead and bought a router, ethernet cable, and dc cable. Only to find out the internet itself is out. Would not recommend this place to anyone and would move out now if there was no penalty."

"This place is terrible. My first year here was great and never had any issues. This year though I have not had wifi for two months and their only solution for me was to wait for a technician. When I got my dad to call the place they finally did something about the wifi issue. But the leasing manager lied and said they had been offering me solutions for months. All maintenance requests takes weeks to be solved and some of our issues have not even been solved, just looked at and marked as complete. Would never recommend this place to anyone."

"Nice enough as a college student - amenities are alright (when they are not out of service for months at a time, a.k.a. a lot of the machinery in the gym), parking is excellent, rent isn’t “toooo” bad as opposed to other complexes around the area (though they do not do pro-rated rent, which seems a bit silly considering the prices of other complexes around the area with better amenities that are able to do pro-rated rent) but they will always charge heinous fees upon move-out. I was once charged $150 dollars for “wall damage,” and the only photo of said wall damage was a minor scuff on the wall, as a result of the paint used being extremely weak/easy to chip, due to it just being coated over every year in place of actual maintenance/repair. I also had a friend living in the complex that was charged $175 dollars for “fan dust,” as if any amount of fan dust could ever amount to an $175 dollar charge. Upon trying to appeal these silly charges, I was essentially told “that’s the way it is, please email our manager,” who notoriously is tardy/flat out does not respond to some emails, which would definitely be an issue considering they give you thirty days to pay it or it spikes in price. In addition, maintenance is extremely 50/50: they either come in and replace/fix the thing the next day, or it takes them months. I once had to issue 4-5 separate work orders, each one at least 2-3 weeks apart, just for them to finally resolve the issue 2.5 months later or so, and only after I had called them about it and they were not aware it was still not fixed. However, I’ve also had them respond extremely fast in some circumstances, so it truly is up in the air as far as a review goes. The maintenance crew themselves are generally very nice, but the older gentleman in charge of the crew seems a bit wishy-washy, half of the time being very unpleasant and half of the time being pretty helpful/doing his due diligence. Overall, not too bad a spot, but there are most likely better options in the area. My biggest concern with the complex overall is the complete lack of knowledge/communication/resources that the, primarily student, staff has or has access to. It seems as if whoever is training the staff, frankly, just doesn’t do a very good job, and it makes me feel for the staff as usually they try their best for you but generally seem not equipped/not knowledgeable enough about the leasings, contracts, or amenities, to be able to assure any residents that may need help or potential future residents with questions. They are very friendly 99% of the time though."

"The amenities worked fine and the overall apartment wasn't too bad of a deal, but the service at the front desk was generally not the most helpful. I don't think the employees had access to enough resources for answering my questions. Like a lot of other reviews I've seen on here, my biggest issue was that they tried to make up reasons to change me half a months rent in fees for moving out. This place wasn't terrible, but that last round of made-up fees really left a sour taste in my mouth."

"Not friendly to people in the military. My daughter left the place absolutely perfect. We cleaned the carpets moving in and out. After being told all was clear and turning in her keys, she received a letter stating she owed 43 dollars for carpet cleaning. Knowing my daughter is in the military and could not come back and fight them she sent several emails asking for an explanation. After the second email they ghosted her. First of all don't tell people they are clear if they are not and then send a letter over 2 weeks later saying she owes for carpet cleaning. Second, you stop responding to her emails when she asked for proof, you sent her a tiny picture of carpet. Nothing was wrong with it. Third, cleaning the carpet is maintenance on any home or apartment and unless it needed to be replaced for negligence or from being destroyed, that is your responsibility. I paid your fee, because she doesn't have the option to do so or take you to small claims court which should be done if anyone else experiences this kind of treatment. In my opinion you did this because you knew there was nothing she could do. Great way to treat people who are serving our country. We do not recommend this apartment complex. Response to the reply; a 43 dollar charge for carpet cleaning is just enough to make a little bit of money off someone but not enough for them to come home from where they are stationed to take this company to small claims court. AGAIN maintenance like carpet cleaning falls on the owner. It didn't need to be replaced due to neglect. I myself also inspected the room, the entire apartment and helped clean it up. I stand by my opinion, not a friendly complex for military people."
