Reviews
"A great FREE museum in Charlottesville! Always very quiet but with quite an excellent collection for a university art museum."
"Small, diverse and interesting. It's also free admission. You can tour the entire collection in an hour or so. In Jan 2024, they're completely changing out all exhibits and doing some renovations, closing for about a month"
"The Fralin is a great free museum if you have a little bit of time to spend in Charlottesville and you're not sure what to do with it. The museum itself is fairly small so this isn't a day-long activity. The exhibits change regularly so you can have a totally new experience if you return after a good chunk of time. I really enjoyed the Radioactive Inactives exhibit (no photos!) and the stories paired with each portrait. I was lucky to be there while a sand mandala was being created as well. If I'm back in the area I will gladly stop by again to see what else is on display."
"Small, but neat. When I went, there was a very interesting exhibit of ancient Mayan ceramics, with generally helpful explanations. I was most taken by a dish featuring what looked (to my thoroughly uneducated eye) like a rather playful depiction of a heron. I also appreciated several pieces in an abstract painting exhibit, and some other things on display."
"Great place to pass an hour while waiting or walking on campus. Small but tasteful and interesting exhibits."
