"Dr. Mike is the most effective therapist I’ve ever had, and I have had many. He is incredibly accomplished, knowledgeable, and experienced in many areas. His “tool box” is extensive; his approaches uniquely individualized. However, just as important is the connection and trust that he is able to establish. I could immediately sense his kindness and that he truly cares about others. I have never felt unimportant or that he didn’t truly listen to me. In fact, he begins each session reviewing where you were at the last time you saw each other, (very helpful for me!) which is an effective strategy to start the session on the same page. While he has many areas of expertise, one of these is working with those who struggle with ADHD (and the depression and anxiety that naturally result from trying to manage it). Dr. Mike excels at helping me understand what my goal is, then working with me to create realistic steps to get there (both encouraging and holding me accountable along the way). It’s a fine balance to be firm without seeming critical, challenging without seeming attacking, and insightful without overwhelming. Personally, as a highly sensitive person myself, I think he does an amazing job with this too. Finding a therapist who is equally helpful with learning to understand yourself and others AND who gives practical, useful, strategies, is like finding a “unicorn” among therapists.
